This was my favorite episode growing up. Not only do you have Mickey Jones as Ricky, but also a young Gerald McRaney as one of the bad guys. The part where Ricky teaches the hulk how to open and drink a soda always made me smile. Plus when David is transforming and starts yelling for Ricky is great. Not to mention, Robin Mattson is absolutely stunning in this.

Part of me as a kid was thinking that when David's voice distorted calling out Ricky's name, that it wasn't David calling for him, but the Hulk. Because the Hulk was as much of a friend to Ricky as David was.

I feel bad for Ricky. He was trapped in the car that became a ticking time bomb when the gas leaked. Then, the famous *Incredible Hulk* came along and carried him out of the car only moments before it exploded. On top of that, he lost a button that Buzz gave to him. This was definitely not Ricky's day. Granted, I don't remember the entire episode (if I even saw it at all), so I don't know what's going on or the backstory on Ricky and his friends. All I know is that those two guys persuaded Ricky to drive that car only to have them trap him in it.

Fun fact: the demo derby footage at the start is from a movie called Fireball 500. It was also used for the opening demo derby scene in The Love Bug. At least I think that's the same footage.

Good episode but one thing I could never understand in the scene. That Ricky's car was a fire and it took the hulk to save him and none of the emergency personnel of that stock car stadium. All of those emergency personnel guys were going to let that car just burn.

My only real problem with the show is how much Banner didn't realize how much more good he was doing as a superhero than as a plainass drifter You'd think after all that time he would have had developed some ability to control his transformations

One of the problems with the show is that there are a lot of people whose lives became better or, in some cases, are only alive because The Hulk was there to intervene, so viewers tend to resist the premise of David trying desperately to reverse/undo the transformation because those are all people who wouldn't have been helped if he'd just been a scientist working in a lab. To be fair, since they never went the route of letting him control his transformation, all this did come at the expense of his ability to have a life of his own or to have any lasting relationships.

I think the closest they ever came to letting him control the transformation was when he totally isolated himself from everyone and was able to go quite some time without changing since there was nothing to trigger it. It's too bad that literally everywhere he visited had some horrible situation that was going to bring about that transformation eventually. I guess bad luck on his part, lol.

This show taught good values for young kids, tackling real life themes of domestic abuse and how people live with disabilities. Hardly nonsense. The show does way more than most TV today. Especially for kids.
