I don't believe it's based on a specific pagan figure. It's just an epic based on a viking who is great with a bow. Great song, my explanation doesn't do it justice.

hammer326 well it seems the song is about a viking who is the last of his kind the song mentions Holy Bridget who was a swedish christian saint and her "hounds" which could refer to christian warriors coming to end him and his kind. I could be wrong tho just pure speculation

The Hyena invoked is a string of legends that all dissapeared. Atlantis, the sun-god, Bridget, they are all described as things that HAVE already dissapeared. He, the last Dragonrider, is to dissapear as well. What will kill him does not come from outside. It is brought by the last of the dragonships. One kinsman will betray and slay the other. Odin knowing his name is not a boast - it means death is near. His boast is his bow, not being known by Odin. Pär Hulkoff comes from the far north, and his ideas ( well, at least some of them ) are filled with anguish about a community dissappearing. Not because of immigration ( not much of a topic for Norrbotten ) but because of people leaving the area for Stockholm, which is one hell of a big issue if you live there. Politicians promise to stop the flight from the north...but what they do is the opposite. Or so he feels anyway, and in truth, I can relate to that. Haparanda is ever so much shrunk since I was born. It has continued to shrink after he was born - we are about 2 decades apart. Old ways of life are not dissappearing to make place for new ways of life - the life that sustained them feels like it is coming to an end. Well, that is my take on it. Perhaps it reflects my concerns rather than his, and perhaps Pär is laughing his arse off when he sees my interpretation.
