Hull Half Marathon 2022

@@MattClarry Due to the amount of roadworks in and around the City I’m guessing this route was the best option Matt. Not as hilly or as warm as the Leeds half. 👍

Ah, that's fair then, it's the first time I've run it, so can't compare to any other year. Yeah, definitely flatter and (a little) cooler than Leeds! I thought Derby Half was flat, until I ran Hull!

I might be blind, but on trying to determine where the accidental course cutting occurred, it appears that the 0.4mile loop was missed at around 01:03:59, except I can't see how you could have gone any other way than you did. It was generally a confusing course that I wouldn't be comfortable running without a more knowledgeable pack to stick to. I suspect there were many 12.7mile half-marathons that day.

Yeah, it was a handful of seconds after that, there was a short transition, so probably not too obvious. The course was largely clear where to go, it was just that one point really. If I wasn't following the runner ahead so closely and both in the zone and a little zoned out, I may have gone the right way ! I have seen a few that are .4 short!

@@MattClarry Ah right, yes, the transition explains it. If a runner takes a wrong turn uncorrected, others tend to follow and it starts an unwitting chain. Whenever I've taken a wrong turn (twice!) I've been immediately corrected by a marshal or other runner. That's why marshals will always trump signage. Of course, some marshals are pretty inanimate, but I'll never criticise someone giving up their time.

It was generally well marshalled and always try to give a quick cheers, a wave or a nod, it just could've done with someone on that junction. The wrong turn was mentioned by another runner later on, possibly half a mile or so further, but by then it was too late sadly.

01:17:47 - teleport engage. Looked like a good course to practice on cadence-destroying speed bumps

Ha ha, yeah, a quick battery change was required at that point! The speed bumps weren't too noticeable really, I was able to go round most of them and the ones I had to go over, I don't think they affected my cadence all that much.

Well done .good pace and breathing. However, this route is terrible. The city centre route was.much better with more support. There are more people around when I do my solo training than this race. They should move it back to city centre.

Well that was a simple course!!....NOT 🤔🤣....City Half with a sprinkling of parkruns and a temporal shift around 9-10 miles.... Sub 1:30, but what happened? Great run though Matt!! 👍🦾🏃

Cheers! Yeah, there were a couple of points where a battery change was required, don't think they took too much out though.
