How are you not more popular? Your vids are absolutely amazing! I love how you give facts about what you can see while travelling. I've subbed, you've absolutely earned it!

Thanks for this vlog. I now live in Grantham, used to live in your home town of Stamford. I always use Hull Trains to London as they are cheaper and at least just as quick. I always go standard and wondered if it was worth, going first class. Your vid has convinced me, that for amount of time on the train, it isn't. When I visit my son in Glasgow, I go 1st class on LNER up to Edinburgh. I always get a good deal, If I book well in advance. The standard seats on the AZUMA trains are awful. I get an early train where I don't need to change at York and the cooked breakfast is really good,
@RorysTravelsАй бұрын
I've yet to try the cooked breakfast, maybe one day!

It seems what I got at breakfast was much better than the daytime offering. But for the price, it's not bad

I do like Hull Trains Class 802 Paragon since they entered service few years after LNER started introducing their new Azuma Class 800 & Class 801. And Lumo Class 803 came into service not that long ago.
@buzzukfiftythreeАй бұрын
Great video, thanks. We’ve travelled that route a few times but have yet to try the Paragon sets. Given what one pays for 1st Class these days, the food offering is not that brilliant. However, I travelled the East Coast route quite a bit back in the 1980s and 90s and, from memory, if you wanted hot food you paid for it in First Class, so I guess having some complimentary food offerings is better than nowt.
@RorysTravelsАй бұрын
I'd agree, I think LNER is definitely better on the food offering side of things.

I think Hull Trains use double formation on the 11.48 ex LKX as it's the return working of the 08.23 10 car Hull to LKX, one of the 5 car sets running from Beverley at 07.53. I understand Crabley Creek, unlike Brough East, is still a working signal box and it may be due to its location at the end of a farm track.
@RorysTravelsАй бұрын
I think you're right, Crabley Creek is for the manual crossing gates on the farm track.

At least there was complimentary catering available in 1st class! If you travel 1st class with Trans Pennine Express between Cleethorpes and Liverpool you'll only have complimentary catering between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly and if it's a 6 coach train only in the front unit in direction of travel

I guess with the cost of Tea and Biscuits on trains these days, you only need a couple of cups of free tea and you've made up the extra cost of going 1st Class! You really feel that you enter another world when you go east of Doncaster - its the same by road if you take the M62 or the M18. A bit like East Anglia, but even more like the place time forgot!
@RorysTravelsАй бұрын
Totally agree, it is so flat and expansive. Similar case when travelling out to Ely and Cambridge on the train!

When making a comparison with LNER. I would like to point out that on first class with the LNER you have access to the first class lounge at Kings Cross. I have found in the past that this is for me a deal breaker. Waiting at Kings Cross in the winter is a very bleak experience. I live in rural East Yorkshire so it is a toss up whether I go from Howden or York.
@RorysTravels29 күн бұрын
That's a very good point about the first class lounge!
@kevinellis8869Ай бұрын
I might be wrong but do LNER offer a limited service to Hull? If so, a fares comparison and catering would be interesting to see. You seem to have a clear bias for LNER, my own perception even though I only rarely use them is the catering is pretty good but the Azuma seating is awful, give me a 91/Mk4 set any day.
@RorysTravelsАй бұрын
I think you’re right, LNER operate a couple of services to/from Hull a day.
@Bungle-UK29 күн бұрын
LNER operate one southbound service from Hull in the morning (nothing on Sunday) and a return to Hull in the evening. Hardly anyone uses it as HT are obviously more frequent and cheaper.

Does the 10 car train get full Rory? Don't think too much about the food offerings ha ha ha.
@RorysTravelsАй бұрын
Neither did we! The whole 10 car train was about half full to Retford and from there it completely emptied out!

The 1148 is rarely full but the morning/evening peak and weekend 10 car services are normally fully reserved.

Why isn't there a Humber Rail Bridge???
@RorysTravelsАй бұрын
I believe it’s because there was a rail ferry instead which ran from New Holland Pier before the bridge opened.

@@RorysTravels If I may offer this suggestion; "Always keep'em wanting more" is a time honoured rule of the stage. In other words, even though the honesty does you credit, we the audience shouldn't know all there is to know. If anyone were desperate to know who your silent partner is, they could have made an educated guess if they'd watched more of your videos. There's the magic of behind the Stage Door, the mystery of what goes on on the other side of the camera lens, the sort of mystique that draws people to celebrities and so on. Sad to mention it, but there's also the need to keep certain information close to your chest because of the weirdos out there. Just a well - intentioned reminder to you to Think before you leap. Enjoyed the vid as well, thank you.

"Up" to Hull? I don't think so! In railway parlance, trains leaving London for a provincial city are always "Down" services!

LNER is propped up by the taxpayer so can afford to waste money on fancier catering. Hull Trains have to operate in the real world.
@RorysTravels29 күн бұрын
@@Bungle-UK surely the fancier catering attracts more passengers and therefore makes more money for LNER than it costs?
@Bungle-UK29 күн бұрын
@ possibly. LNER have really raised their prices over the past couple of years though so I wonder how many people pay lots just to get a ‘free’ meal. The stats show HT has had much higher growth after covid than LNER so even if the catering isn’t the best, it doesn’t seem to be putting people off, and that gives them no reason to spend more on enhanced catering. Personally, a sandwich is fine for a journey of a couple of hours but something more substantial is appropriate if going from London to Scotland, for example.
