Interesting information I did a lot of research and found it hard to get my head around the weights also however I’m jumping into a surtees 650GF just can’t beat the build quality. The crushers and surtees have the added advantage of adding weight with the flooding keel too.

Yep they are good. But the 650 is a light weight, like the 670ht BC. Genuine offshore comfort, to a degree. Starts in the bigger models. In any case, hopefully it works out well for you....

Yeah I’ve found out most people who have put their 650GF on the weigh bridge come in just over 2t

@@BaitBallin yes the brakes should be upgraded I have a mate with a cheap alloy one and he said it actually flexes and keeps snapping the front tie down, So I opted for a steel one couldn’t afford the G fab

I noticed that Maclay 650HT says it can go on a 1999kg Trailer i bet itd be over ready fueled and loaded for fishing

Very interesting. Sea Jay in qld make a pressed hull Trojan 670 HT with a bare hull weight of 1195kg. Why are the pressed hulls coming in at similar weight and in some cases heavier than plate hulls? This prompted me to check another well know and long established qld plate boat builder claiming his 7m half cab coming at 800kgs.

Yeah they are all over the bloody shop. You need solid hull weight plus decent deadrise. Yes there are heaps of light weights out there also

Im about to take delivery of a new 650GF. Also found the published weights didnt make sense. In general Im not sure about the accuracy of the Surtees weights compared to the BCs. Iv also looked at all the calcs you just went through and they dont really add up. It make sense that the 610 workmate and 615c is similar in weight, but the weight discrepancies between the comparable higher models dont seem correct. I find it very hard to believe the 700 surtees GF (which feels to be a fairly basic/hollowed out hull especually in the open cabin model) is heavier than the 780BC, 700+ Yellowfins (which are build like tanks) and even the 730 BC. Also, this pattern of surtees being heavier than the others doesnt align with the fact that the 650GF comes on a 2000KG Trailer when the 670BC comes on a 2300kg trailer. Its so frustrating the manufactures cant provide clear information regarding these hulls. It shouldnt be hard. We shouldnt have to go through all this deduction BS to try to figure out weights. I could be wrong but to me, these comparisons dont stack up. Not what youve deduced, but the published info. Appreciate the vid.

Hey man, sadly they are roughly legit. The 650 game fisher and 670HT BC are considerably lighter boats than the 700 game fisher. 700 has alot of weight in the water and the second you step on board you feel it. It's also why there is a huge price step up to the 700GF. There is alot more alloy.

In Surtees the 700 is the start of offshore 'comfort' and in BC it's the 730ht. I loved both my 670 BC's but they are very light indeed.

When you ride in the various models, across the brands. There is no question about the pecking order. Unfortunately many people do not get this opportunity and no brand is going to tell you their product is '2nd' best etc.

Hey there, I honestly don't talk about lower volume boats as they sadly come and go pretty often. Also, because I don't have enough experience with them to actually talk about them truthfully from a position of knowledge. So not discounting their capabilities etc.

Nah they keep it vague so you don't know how light they are. 670 is about 880. 730 is about 1100 and for serious offshore work and comfort, weight matters.

The boats with real hull weight are Surtees and Yellowfin. Thats why there is such a big upgrade between 670 to 730, it's those 200kg plus is that make a big difference. 6mm bottom adds the weight, where you need it. Down low.

Somethings not right with those bar crusher hull-trailer weights mate. By there logic it’s saying the 780 bar crusher hull is 250 kilos lighter then the surtees yet the dry tow weights are only 30 kilos different? Unless there’s an extra 250 on the back it doesn’t add up. Also you’ve got a figure of 1860 kilos for a 730ht without a motor yet tow weight is 2260 so that’s a 400 kilo outboard which doesn’t sound right. Those bar crusher figures for trailer/hill are dodgy.

No unfortunately they are not from what I know.. The BC total weights are over estimated to include gear, fuel etc. I have also been told by someone there that the 670 is only 880kg for example. So while my calcs aren't exact, they are very close.....

Unfortunate reality is all the 5mn plate hulls are very light and handle accordingly and are priced accordingly. Less alloy involved. it's all about money, keeping construction costs down.
