Film produced by local talent under the direction of Hull-based Nova Studios with music by Steve Cobby.
Narrated in part by Sir Tom Courtenay and featuring Larkin poetry, the film depicts what is at the heart of Hull -- its diverse range of people -- and highlights the city's individuality.
The film will be played to the UK City of Culture 2017 judges as part of the city's final presentation in Derry-Londonderry.

Unbelievable how negative people can be about something so great as a city that has it's eyes and hopes on the future and its heart and personality respectfully connected to its historical past. If you don't like it get out, and leave space for those who want to be here, love being here and want to be part of Hull's future success. I'm from Hull and Glasgow!

To be honest those posting negative comments because we aren't highlighting the bad points about Hull, they are typical Hull comments. As a people we've always played ourselves down, we never seem to focus on the positives alone and because of that we allow others to knock us down all the time. Why would we try to win the city of culture by highlighted negative points, you just wouldn't. Everywhere has bad places but they shun those areas and promote the best of what they have, so why shouldn't we. #HullYes

For any reasonable person that travells and lived in different cities or countries, Hull is a dull, "nothing-to-do place", full of ignorant people. The only attractive side of Hull is how cheap it is. Because there is low demand for literally anything. OK, also there is surprisingly decent University for such place. The only people that truly love it, are local lowlifes that never travelled further than Doncaster in their lifetime, or migrants that do low paid jobs and are too scared to change anything. No matter where you go, you lose nothing by leaving Hull. There is no much strong sides, if any. I understand that there is hardship anywhere, but if you put an all round average person in Hull, there is a high chance that he will end up poorly

I left Hull 30 years ago, I have lived in many cities in Britain and abroad and they all have good and bad parts. My home now is Germany and my city is Munich a very cosmopolitan city visited every day by people from all-over the world that contribute to the city's economy, if being the city of culture brings people from all-over the world to Hull and helps the economy of a city that was once voted the worst place in Britain then you are on to a winner. I left thirty years ago but there are people who stayed to try and make Hull a better place for everyone and to those people I take my hat off and say thankyou.

Agree, but I wouldn't say everyone from Hull are negative about the city. I live in Hull and was born here I think it's a great place and fed up of other city's putting us down mostly in the south near London which to be honest I'd say is the worst place to be. (I've always let people know I'm from Hull, even my channel, G+ & FaceBook shows Queens Gardens)

Brilliant video. I've grown up my entire life in Hull and I've been to a lot of places in the UK and there is nowhere else quite like it. A lot of people seem to find it very easy to come on here and make a hell of a lot of cruel judgement's as people not from Hull and people from in and around Hull. I grew up on Bransholme, a huge council estate and got moved to a small village in the east riding, and I can honestly say the people, the sense of community and the general every day kindness was much more apparent to me and my family in Hull than it was in what people would consider to be a 'nice' 'idyllic' village. Hull is progressing and changing and the arts is appreciated here more than ever before. I honestly don't care about peoples outside opinions that they build without even really experiencing what Hull has to offer. I know from living here that it can be a brilliant place, and this video makes me proud of it :)

Having lived in London for 13 years I must admit I was apprehensive of moving back to Hull due to finances - I can safely say it is a great city, with a great homegrown culture which is fueled by independent creative people. It is so hard for culture to flourish in our ever increasingly expensive identikit cities, this is what makes Hull stand out...It has the highest percentage of students staying on to make a life here than any other university city, which must mean something :-)

Congratulations Hull! What a wonderful and thought provoking/emotional video this is. I lived in Hull many years a go and my granddad always said "Hull has always brought a future and good luck to our family" I'm living in London at the moment, and hopefully in the next year or so I can return to Hull. No city or town in the UK is perfect, but Hull is special in so many ways and certainly does have a future it just needs this help and further government funding to give it a push and add some life back into it.

Every city has problems, and problematic people, but it isn't what defines it as a city. What defines us is the determination and perseverance to be happy.people from Hull 'get on with it' no matter what the situation is. I'm proud to come from a city that doesn't back down to adversity. The powers that be do nothing good for the city, but the people do not care, as we all have each other, and the suits outside the city can swivel :)

This video paints a different picture to how I and the majority of people see Hull, however it does have a few good things, albeit not many. The video is pointing out positives, it doesn't say there is nothing bad about Hull... It's just highlighting the good things. Constantly claiming that hull is a bad place to live is not going to improve anything whereas videos like this could make change happen, for the better.

When Maria Miller said "Hull", everyone that was watching it on TV outside of Hull all said "HULL!?" in unison. Quite unbelievable, as Hull is not cultural in the slightest. Like most UK cities, you show some culture in Hull and it'll cost you a limb, some blood and some time in a hospital bed. On the BBC website about Hull winning, Maria Miller spoke about what made Hull win, and with what she said, you'd be forgiven for thinking that she was talking about Dundee, which makes me think that the possibility of Scottish Independence in 2014 cost Dundee big time. Dundee clearly had the strongest bit, followed closely by Leicester. Swansea Bay, while a good choice, didn't stand a chance, but had more of a chance than Hull. Luck clearly was on Hull's side.

I can't believe they made Hull look this flipping good! No wonder Hull won City of culture bid for 2017. There were street parties everywhere the week the announcement was made in late 2013. Why didnt they go down Springbank road or up to Preston Estate or Sculcoates lane area and ask them locals what they think about the city? Don't even get me started about East Hull with their fierce looking pit bulls on patrol.LOL

I'm from Hull and I can say that it's certainly not the awful place it is protrayed to be by the media. Over the past 5-10 years there has definitely been an emerging cultural scene for music and the arts and that is great to see, as is all the positive support it's receiving! However I think that Hull has a long way to go before it could be deserving of this award. I understand that Hull has an impressive history in its own right but in my opinion this video completely misrepresents Hull, drawing on these positives and thus ignoring some serious negatives, painting an inaccurate picture of the place. Personally I think that if you choose to stay in Hull a lifetime, as this video points out, then of course it will seem quite cultured as you're not experiencing what else is out there. I don't want to be accused of calling Hull a bad place as I'm not but it needs to become a lot more accepting as a place before it could be deserving of this IMO.

I love Hull. I never liked Birmingham that much as a youngster - although I probably missed much of its transformation. It's rather lovely now. But, for me, not as lovely as Hull. This is my home of 20 years. I love the open sky, the Estuary, the history, the pride of the people, and the people in general. I just wish Hull's own Council could have loved it half as much over the years, and made some better planning decisions. Some monumental losses of fantastic buildings occurred in the 1980s - and just recently the iconic J. Arthur Rank Mill, courtesy of the land grabbers, Manor Holdings, or whatever they're called. I do love the Deep, though.
