Another great video Chris…thanks for sharing. I’m absolutely blown away by the prices. You talk about contrast, the Lexus with 300k plus looked like a 40k mile vehicle, yet the Solstice with an actual 40k looked like it had seen 300k plus! Poor poor Solstice it’s endured a difficult existence. Looking at the Carmax rejects I think it speaks volumes about the quality of the cars that they elect to keep.

Such a great comment and I was thinking exactly what you wrote, both about the difference between the Lexus and Pontiac and about the quality of the vehicles that CarMax decides to resell on their lot.

16:05 FYI Canada cars have non-reversable daytime headlights. Many locales in Canada use a liquid brine to melt the ice on their roads in the winter (from my mechanic). This causes the rust under the car to fuse all the bolts and parts together to the body making it near impossible to remove parts underneath without much effort. I had a Ford Flex purchased used at a Michigan dealership that was purchased by them at an auction and it was from Canada (unbeknownst to me). I could not even remove the bolts underneath to install a trailer hitch and my mechanic could barely remove the brake parts when I needed new brakes. I am glad that CARMAX discloses this info. My dealer did not and I did not do enough research.

Like a couple of others have said, that Olds was the bargain here. Looked to be mostly cosmetic, and at 43k miles that has a LOT of life left; would make an excellent 1st car if there's no quibbles about it's size. AND - as we don't have to tell you, those end of the line Oldsmobiles were really good, reliable cars. I would've made that purchase. Also want to say that I think you're honing in on your format style, more descriptive with interests to fast n quick-facts on more bread n butter types. Good video.
@hullinger3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about that Olds being the deal of the day. And thank you for the kind words too about my videos. They have been evolving over the years and I still feel like they need to improve even more. It's definitely a long process for me, that's for sure.
@cheapme18503 жыл бұрын
I agree the Intrigue was the best deal. The only problem with buying low mileage, older cars is if you want to get a quick flip. Many folks still won’t bite on them, especially younger buyers who don’t have the knowledge regarding older cars, especially discontinued models. All they see is an old car. Now if you’re going to keep it, it’s a great deal. I tried to flip a 2000 Acura TL with low miles and it was a bitch to get rid of because it was still a 20 year old car.

Personally I find Lexus cars boring (with the exception of the ISF and LC500) but no doubt they're built to last the test of time. The V6 motor has been used since 2006 and all they ever need are regular oil changes at 7-8k and spark plugs at 90-100k. As for this one just for the heck of it I'd do a head gasket test since it's low on coolant and the oil looks like it was just changed. Could also be a leaking and bad water pump.
@CJDiecast3 жыл бұрын
"This thing is rougher than I expected for the miles." You would think so but I've quickly learned that just because a car has low mileage doesn't automatically mean it's in good shape. I worked at a Toyota dealership as a porter and would see cars in the first couple thousand miles with already stained seats/carpets, accident damage on the bumpers/doors, funky smells, steering wheel discoloration, etc. I had one '20 Toyota Corolla Hybrid that literally looked like it was ten years old inside. A heavy-set guy that was an absolute slob just destroyed that poor car. It smelt horrible, everything was covered in a thick layer of dust, dirt, and sticky residue. It literally hasn't been cleaned since the day he bought it. I swear people just don't bathe or shower regularly and it showed in this one! Also, people just don't care about their car aesthetically as long as it runs and drives. That's the mindset of most people unfortunately.
