Bought one of these recently and got an after market mask, good price and after a quick strop on an already sharp axe it's now razor sharp. I also have the Hultafors chopping axe and the edge on that's the same. Ideal for working in around our fisheries in Cheshire clearing bivvy area and chopping up branches and logs.

Hi Nev, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. For the money they are a great axe. Funny you your should mention using them on a fishery. Mine spent a few years clearing areas on a few fisheries that I have worked on in the past :) Thanks again mate, all the best, Mark :)

Hi Angof, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. They are a brilliant axe :) The only thing I have done with mine since having it was to make a sturdier leather mask for it. The one that came with it lasted a couple of years, but it started to stretch. Apart from that it has done hell of a lot of work. They are a great axe to use:) Have a great day, all the best, Mark :)

@@markbailey2981 Thanks Mark, having a look around the web for a better mask but they seem to cost as much as the axe did !! maybe i`ll have a go at making my own as well. Great channel, watched more of your content this afternoon and subbed of course.

Thank you @@angof, it is very much appreciated :) Yes, masks can be quite expensive. If you a bit of leatherwork then they are quite simple to make. It's always nice to put your own personal touch to a item of kit :) Take care and thanks again for the sub :)

I have this axe in 0.8 and 0.9 Kg. I like both but the slightly longer and heavier version I have come to prefer and it is a bit more versatile and powerful. If day hiking I take the 0.8 as a lighter, smaller carry but if at camp and wood processing I prefer the larger variant. I agree these are a great axe at the pricepoint and very tough and durable. I purchased my 0.8 in 2012 and its still like new. Thanks for the great video Mark.

Hello Mark thanks for taking the time to review this axe. I recently purchased one from Heinnie Haynes, longer version though with 0.85kg Head. It's an Agdor like yours , but it looks like they have re-profiled it. The Heel of the Axe is more like my Gransfors Bruks, in that it is relieved to allow your hand to close up to the head for fine work. The handle was incredible, almost a perfect grain on it. The edge needed some work, but that's' just a part of getting to know your tools. Atb Wayne
@markbailey29815 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne, I hope you are keeping well. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) That's interesting about your axe. Mine is a few years old, so maybe they have redesigned the head shape? The Agdor range are excellent for the money. I think I paid about £39.00 for it. Like you say, the handles are usually very good. I also have a classic and that has been designed so you can choke up on the head. I like that feature in an axe. Have a great weekend Wayne, all the best, Mark :)

Good review. Bought it recently. Factory Hults bruk is located about 37 miles from my home. Finish is decent for price. Sheath looks horrible and almost like fake leather. But after rinsing out the ugly light brown-ish color, dried it and waxed it, looks pretty good. Fit is too loose. I made a stitch with sewing machine on top to make it tighter, worked. Handle was not sanded well and pretty dry. Sanded, oiled and waxed, now good. Sharpness was ok but needed work. And it had marks from grinder, smoothed out with sharpening stone and some fine sandpaper. But what to expect for low price? Very good axe. After some fixing it looks like it cost a lot more.
@markbailey29814 жыл бұрын
Hi Stonehill27, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I agree, they are a great price. But for that, it seems like a bit of work is needed to get them how you want. I ended up making a new mask for mine. The original one was too soft and it soon stretched to the point that it wouldn't stay on the axe lol. But like you say. Half an hour with a bit of sandpaper and linseed oil and the handles come up lovely, a quick sharpen and for the money you have an axe that should last a good number of years. Plus they are a good axe. I also have on of the Hultafors classic axes and you can see where the extra money goes :) Thanks for taking the time my friend, have a great weekend, all the best, Mark :)

These Agdor Hultafor (Hults Bruk)/ line axes are highly underrated. They are so affordable yet they could outperform most other expensive axes. They have a very simple old fashion design axe bit that is great for splitting and just feel good in your hands. Once sharpened they are great cutters, choppers and carvers too.

You did good with the price BB, only paying 47 dollars for an axe plus postage from England. I paid £35.00 plus £10.00 post to a local address. Not sure what that would be in dollars, about 55 maybe? Say Heah M8, Cheers. Yeah the Agdor range is more of a European style, where the Classic range is more of a Scandinavian style. Anyhow, my 17" Agdor Hatchet became one of my Fav's. Because it's a little heavier (about a 1/4 lbs.). So processing wood, makes easier work of it, Infact,, I like teaming it with my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife which I also attached my Mora Kansbol to the Sheath, a lovely piece of kit, or actually many of my other knives if I want to make a simple Trio Carry. I also added my Wicked Tough Saw, so now I have a nice set for the Bush. You did good, Thanx You. Dilly Dilly.,,.p

Hi mate, nice Video. I have a question, can we let the Wood handle get wet without Problems? And If yes then can we still Work with it(when wet)?
@markbailey29813 жыл бұрын
Hi Icxcnika, many thanks or watching. I tend to use mine in sorts of weather. Living in the UK we don't to get much choice lol. I always coat the handle with linseed oil to protect it. If I am using the axe in the rain then I always try and make sure that I dry it off (both wood and steel) and oil the head to stop it rusting. You just have to be mindful that if you are using the axe in the wet, that it doesn't slip out of your hand.
@ninjarules22803 жыл бұрын
@@markbailey2981 Thnx for answer. I was thinking to completely varnish all Wood and then Put some non-slip tape on handle and Close with a specially elastic silikon "holes" betwen Wood and metal head to keep 100% dry the inside wood coz after varnish is No bearthable. And forgot Problems for much much years. Whats your Idea for it?
@markbailey29813 жыл бұрын
@@ninjarules2280 Axes are quite robust tools. The hickory handles have been used for years due to the durability and nowadays most of the steels are decent quality. Like I mentioned I use linseed oil on the handles and they last for years. I lightly sand them every now and again and re oil them to keep them looking good and protected. I have used mine around fisheries for years and they often get wet, so my main concern is to keep the steel oiled. I haven't heard of the elastic silicon so I am not sure, sorry. You could also take a look at the leather axe collars which also help protect the handle from an over strike or when the axe get jammed in a split. 🪓🪓👍👍.

Say Heah M8 Cheers, I bought my 17" Agdor Hatchet on a closeout,, But it became my Fav. Bush Craft Hatchet. Yeah It's a compact hatchet with a kick, I got mine very sharp and it holds a edge retention pretty good. I can carve with it a little and it makes short work out of processing firewood. I also got a Axe Holster for it so I can carry it on my belt, Comfortably I might add. yeah, I got the holster from a KZbinr, just search axe holster and you will find him. But yeah, I really like my 17" Agdor, It is a European Style, But the steel is great and I really enjoy using it especially when I go on the trail with a basic Trio. I can team it with many of my knives. But one of my Fav's go to is my Rodent 6 which I modified by thinning the blade and taking the top guard off, I also like neck carrying my Mora 510(newer version) and my Wicked Tough Saw. With this basic Trio, I not only trust my life on it, But I totally can depend on it's quality, and yet, It wasn't terribly expensive, I got top shelf quality for the $$$. Thanx You for sharing a great tool. I apporove.,,.

I've got the same Axe Mark, this is the Trekker right? I haven't done anything to the handle besides adding some bicycle tube to protect the neck, but coconut oil all the way for the head after camp sessions (thats the theory anyways, I usually only check out my kit a week after a camp!) By the way, when you say a light sanding, do you mean a small grain paper or any grain as long as you dont go too hard on it? Cheers Chris
@markbailey29815 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, yes if I remember correctly it was the Agdor Trekker. For the money they are a brilliant axe. I did very little to mine. Just a bit of linseed oil for the handle and ballistol on the steel and it is still in great condition. Just the right size and weight for my rucksack. I might try coconut oil on mine. I make a coconut oil and beeswax cream for my leather work and spoon carvings, so I have some in the cupboard :) Yes, when I'm sanding, I tend to use a fine grit. I don't mind spending longer using finer sandpapers. Thanks as always Chris... have a great weekend mate, all the best, Mark :)
