Thank you for your kind words! I was hesitant making this review in English, there werre a few words I didn't know in English (like fir). Also, the video was a bit bit rushed tbh, but I still feel it was a fair review/comparison, were I showed at least partially what the tools can do in a few given situations. I should have probably added a segment where I did some actual splitting, but like I stated in the video; both will split wood just fine, but the Hultån will do it a bit more with ease due to the thicker grind. Once again, thank you!

it's called a tree stump,i like slick handles on my axes. More easy for them too slide better in hand when used right and with change of grip. And just a wery usefull tip,you allways cut the branches off the other way(15:37) if the branches goes uppwards ,you cut uppwards. A much better way too do it,try it. Lay it on the ground and cut uppwards and on the other side off the log.

Excellent comparison and demonstration, thank you! Both Hatchets look like great tools.

Thank you! They're both great tools, it'll pretty much be up to personal preferences which one you like better than the other. As with many tools.

Fredrick, you always manage to make videos on the very items I am looking at purchasing. Thanks the videos really help. Would like to learn more about sharpening an axe, splitting axe, hatchet and wood carving hatchet from the craftsman who helped you sharpen your axe. Would like to hear his thoughts on hand sharpening vs belt vs field sharpening. There are some videos by us forest service but they focus on just splitting axe.

Man, I've missed getting back to tons of comments on this specific video. No clue as to why. I really appreciate you commenting, and I'll be sure to look up the video(s) you mention!

This looks almost exactly like a Hults bruk axe. Sheath, blade, handle, everything. They are technically different I guess, but they are the same company because one was acquired and to sell in the states. Husqvarna is about the same too.

Hultafors are forged at Hults Bruk forge as many others brands, so it make sense when they resemble each other.

At least you have both axes from two years. What’s your tools? Give me a feedback because i’m want to buy one of this two axe. Thanks!

I've used both axes extensively, but I tend to go with the Outdoor Axe more often. I've also gotten my hands on some other axes in this size-range, but with MUCH heavier heads. They're real workhorses, but sometimes the overall/head weight is just too much for what I use them for. Out of these two, I tend to go more with the Outdoor Axe. But it's all personal preferences.

in the world of axe, which would you say is the best / top notch axe brand in your opinion? Is it GB?
@PinkG104 жыл бұрын
No. I would say Toporsib, Fenix and then Autine Tools.

The "piece of wood" is called a "stump" or "tree stump" ;-)

sympathic vid. good tests, nicely shown. i will watch more vids from you channel. i just think a splitting test is more important than all the other tests, please do those in the future. its what most people will use for making a small fire. for the rest, a saw or small knife is the way. noone will do feather sticks with an axe/hatchet, its with every model terrible compared to a knife. also a baton-test would be fine. about comparing the outdoors axe with the hultafors isnt fair nor really compareable. its over 300g weight difference, as i can see from the specs and from handling such. this should be in the conclusion. if such a lightweight axe performs as good as a 300+ grams heavier axe, its at all a great product. even it costs way too much. about the one hultan model you got, i dont understand so well. is it the model with the "failure" grind, and you still use it? you should of course only show here models with a usual/good factory edge. to get a realistic view on the usual model. id like you to test fiskars, especially the xxs/x5. maybe the x7 or x10. from my experience with two gränsfors (small forest axe, wildlife hatchet), x5, xxs, x7, x10, 2 x cheapo hatchet: the xxs is the winner for usual bushcraft hatchets/axes. gränsfors is just too narrow headed, wont split well enough and will stuck so often in the wood. cheapo hatchets have terrible bad, soft steel and bad edge geometry. fiskars does it great and cost not much. dont get me wrong, dont wanna stress. i also like natural made material stuff way more. just if some axe/hatchet channel isnt testing also "plastic"-axes, its snobbery and a not realistic nor helpful channel. pragmatically seen, plastic stuff is great, especially, price-wise, for the most users. some days ago i counted the chops to get through a very hard branch, before i could break it by hand. cheapo hatchet 85 strikes, xxs: 45 strikes. id like to test the outdoors hatchet, but its just nonsense expensive. 75-80euros and it would be ok. as you somehow said: it works all, even 5euro hatchets. just how well and what the needs for owners are is the thing. im pretty sure by usually taking a look at the edge geometry, width of the head, length of the handle, steel used, company...: and its mostly clear, what kind of axe/hatchet this is, for what kind of tasks its best for.
