Hulu's Animaniacs Season 3 Is A Let Down - SpongicX Reviews

I actually enjoyed the first 2 seasons of Hulu's Animaniacs Reboot, but the final season was an unfunny disappointment...

The executive producer said the Warners survived the meteor so at least they're okay and not locked up in the tower again. Basically what had happened behind the scenes and quickly circulated was that the crew wasn't informed season 3 was the final season until last minute so they basically rushed an ending. Personally I loved season 3. A lot of those examples of quality you gave at the end were present. The emotional/touching aspect was in several episodes like Soda-Pressed and Island Of Dr. Warnereau. It's also noticeably faster-paced and more chaotic than seasons 1 and 2 with jokes that made me laugh like the Terminator jabs. I thought it was a satisfying final season... but I do think the ending could have been handled better. At least we have word now that they didn't die.

I think the biggest problem with season 3 is that the Warners just don’t feel like themselves. They feel so down-played to the point of weakness. In the original they were smart, witty, and always one step ahead of their adversary. Here, they barely fight back. They either run away or wait for someone to rescue them. They no longer feel zany. This is a common problem in the reboot in general, but it is most prevalent in season 3. For example, in the episode where they go against Dr Scratchnsniff’s brother, his experiments have to save them. When they’re stuck in the video game world, the video game characters have to come to their rescue. Even in the first episode they couldn’t even outsmart Nora of all people and gave in to her demands, I’m just tired of it. Why can’t they be like their original selves? The reboot had so much potential but it is so lacking in terms of writing and character.

I never said it was bad because it didn't make fun of Trump, I was honestly relieved they stopped beating that dead horse. I just felt like the rest of the humor was painfully unfunny this season.

10:14 when I first saw the scene in the finale I was like “that’s it?”. Also why would you have three lovable cartoon icons die from a meteor strike. The animaniacs were loved and adored for 25+2 years

It wasn't on purpose, it was Hulu's fault, Gabe Swarr (Executive Producer and Writer of the reboot) explained that Hulu only informed them that S3 would officially be the last when HALF of the season It was already being finished

And since their time was short, obviously there was no way to change the scripts/Episodes anymore, so what was left was to change and re-edit the scripts that would still be animated, And it was planned for Slappy to have a full episode, but with this info from Hulu, they canceled it, but then at the last minute they made this little tribute to her

I just saw the half finished pilot for the Tiny Toons reboot, strap in it's pretty trash ngl. I didn't have high hopes but even so it's very disappointing. They also needlessly changed Dizzy to a they/them. Ya know to appeal to the Twitter kiddos gotta squeeze a they/they them in there ig. I don't have anything against people who id as They/Them, I just hate needlessly changing 20+ year old established and beloved characters from my childhood. (edited for spelling)

I think the biggest overall problem of Season 3 is that it's boring and forgetable. As flawed as Season 1 was, it had some genuinely funny moments and great songs. Season 2 was a genuinely strong season that even featured a few songs and segments that felt like they could stand head to head with content from the original show (Yakko's Big Idea is the obvious standout). Season 3 is just...there. For the most part, the skits aren't funny, the songs are forgettable, and the show seemed to value style (flashy animation styles) over substance (strong writing). But the biggest insult for me was the ending. To end the show with the main characters being hit by a meteor was just a giant "Fuck You" to the fans who loved those characters.

@SpongicX At first, I was wondering if I was missing something when I watched Season 3. After all, I thought that Season 1 had more gross/annoying stuff than Season 3. But I guess the thing that makes Season 3 the worst season isn't that it has the most bad stuff in it. It's the worst because it has the least good stuff in it. It's sad for me to write a negative review about one of my favorite franchises of all time. Usually, the characters alone make the series entertaining, but Yakko, Wakko, and Dot just couldn't save this season for me.

According to Gabe Swarr a producer on the show, the writers weren't aware season 3 was the final season so they decided to throw in a last minute ending, and it truly shows

Yes, Basically it was WB/Hulu's fault, if they hadn't rushed the reboot, or at least given them time to do the episodes as planned, or have to compress everything just because of the time limit, we would definitely have something like that or in fact better than the other 2 seasons

it was all improvised and repurposed from what they wanted, the meteor hitting the warners initially was going to be just a common joke about "in the next day to day security, how to protect yourself from a meteor coming towards the earth at X kilometers per hour when crossing a street [•••]", and not the end of the series, but anyway... that's what they had to do.

Season 1 and 2 were good, but there was absolutely nothing good for season 3. They felt like they’ve given up, and just threw random crap at a wall and passed it as good. Like I would’ve never thought the characters could get this bland, like it honestly really made me sad man. I was hoping there was a possibility for a season 4 after this, but there ain’t no way now. I think this show could’ve gone farther too if some of the old ips were given back, because everything accept the gnome skit was terrible.

I wholeheartedly agree. This season was the weakest of the reboot by far. I get trying to reduce the political jokes because everyone was complaining about it. But what we got in turn was less songs, less creative writing aside from a few episodes discounting the final ep, and an overall weak season of this reboot. Just last season Yakko was doing a song about the bayeux tapestry, something that felt very much like the OG Series' songs. Why couldn't they have followed in those footsteps? Instead we got the worst songs this show ever offered aside from the final episode song, and we got a much lesser version of the Animaniacs experience aside from 2 or 3 good eps and the Slappy Squirrel cameo. That was a nice treat that gave me hope they were going to give more characters cameos next season. In fact, a part of me believes this writing crew was hoping for a 4th season to come before unleashing what they were capable of. It's a damn shame it didn't get renewed, but in many ways maybe it was for the better. It could have easily been just like Futurama with Season 7 (or 10 if u count broadcast order). At least they went out with a decent track record with some truly memorable moments. Plus, that ending of the series may someday become a reality. You never know 💀Consider it their way of warning us lol

Yeah this season felt weird and not particularly funny lol. I liked a couple of segments, but the rest was...aghh. A lot of the Warner stuff bored me. The Jojo Siwa parody ended really bizarrely? And it feels kind of cheap that they're still jamming patb with gay subtext (or, well. Actual text?) but refuse to outright confirm it 💀 The mice are also insanely out of character at times imo, which sucks since they're my faves :( I'm just very disappointed, particularly after season 2 gave me a lot of hope. I thought s2 was a lot better than s1, but now it's gone wayy back down. Totally upsetting honestly. I'm glad I'm not alone in my feelings.

I don’t think comparing Pinky and The Brain to Starbox and Cindy is at all fair, both duos are completely different from one another, and each skit containing the respective does are not at all similar.

Personally, I think that this was the best season (of the reboot) but I don't really view them as Animaniacs seasons anyway. I think it's a good show by itself, but not a good animaniacs show. The Warners just lack most of their character traits that made them so great in the original. -No tiny (half-minute or less) songs -No real episode, where they're actually totally insany -The Warners are cought and get in trouble far too easily. In the original they almost never got in trouble, because of their zany antics. And when they did those episodes felt very special. -Yakko is missing his wittiness, and, as the theme song literally states, Dot of all characters now has it instead. -Dot is way too witty and isn't her old self anymore, basically to 100%. Like, I get that they wanted to make her more feminist, seeing as she's the only female character of the five main ones, but that doesn't mean that you have to also destroy the cute, manipulative way that she brought to the trio. -Dr. Scrachansniff and the Brain are far too mean Ralph, Wakko and Pinky mostly stayed the same, which is something, I guess. I don't normally laugh out loud at things that I know are _made_ to get me to laugh, because I kinda feel like I'm forced to laugh, I dunno. But the original show had some moments, where even I couldn't stop myself. The first two seasons of this reboot only had two or three of those moments each, but season three had me lol-ing once almost every episode, but, again, not because of the Animaniacs' humor, more because of the Animaniacs' reboot's humor.

Season 3 in my opinion wasn't that bad. It had more variety this time around, but it still felt like there should've been more variety or at least make the Warners zanier! They should've has Slappy Squirrel in more episodes with a talking role though.

Pretty sure it was a parody on the old shows Lassie and Flipper. Apparently the joke was that instead of animals who help humans, they instead kill them. Yeah, I honestly didn't laugh, just dark shock humor for the sake of it. Robot Chicken even did a funnier Lassie parody, and it went by quicker too.
