Heavenly droning, endless feedback, searing Drop D riffs, pummeling drums and bass= The Almighty Hum

There've been many imitators of Hum. What set them apart from the rest then and now is the drumming. Bryan was an absolute beast and not your average 90s band drummer.

Straight up. They found that balance of getting famous enough to have all the people that should find them able to find them but not too famous to be jaded and lose sight of who they are. When Inlet dropped I was completely blown away. It felt like I was back in 2001. Anyone who was a teenager in the late 90s early 2000s knows exactly what that means. It's like watching a movie in your head. When you watch a movie you sit there and completely immerse yourself in that world. For an hour and a half you submit to the reality it creates. It's the same way for me with Hum. I can put on any of their albums and listen to it from start to finish and it's almost like time travel. It's weird lol

Frankly we don’t need it, just a re-release. In my mind, that’s one of the best engineered hard rock albums ever, audiophile wise. It’s got a pretty great dynamic range with hardly if any clipping. I’d put White Pony by Deftones, Loveless by My Bloody Valentine and Rage Against the Machine’s self titled in the same boat.

Damn I LOVE their live tone so much. Hum is one of those bands that are basically worshipped by their fans. I saw them open for Bush in like 1996. Hum was first, then Toadies, then Bush. I couldn't believe how heavy and badass Hum sounded. They were definitely the highlight of the night. RIP Bryan St. Pere😔 An absolute powerhouse. One of the heaviest hitting drummers ever and knew exactly how to create drum fills that were like ear candy.

Being a fan of them the very first moment I heard stars on the radio when I was much younger in the 90s, I unfortunately missed them live cause I had no money. So for years I’d look for them on tour but just was never able to see them. But finally seen them in 2016. It was like a dream come true. They are definitely my top 5 list. I will see them again if they decide to come to Cali again for sure. Got plenty of money now being all grown up and stuff now! But most definitely an underrated band from the nineties!

I’ve been LUCKY enough to see HUM play live several times over the past couple decades. In Hartford CT. they were supposed to be on tour with The Promise Ring but their van had crashed and TPR didn’t play. That would’ve been an epic lineup! I’ve based a lot of my drumming style off of Bryan’s amazing work. The washy cymbals and sick little fills will reverberate in my mind forever ❤
