What are human rights?
They're a fundamental part of society; they make sure we are all treated with the same level of equality, dignity and respect. Without them, our lives would be completely different. But that's just scratching the surface.
This beautiful animation will explain why we have human rights (funded by the Legal Education Foundation).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EachOther is a UK-focused charity that uses independent journalism, story-telling and film-making to put the human into human rights. The digital content we produce is grounded in the lived experience of ordinary people affected by human rights issues. We involve them in the process of developing their stories, rather than talking for or over them. Theirs are the voices we platform and amplify to our lay audience of over a million viewers each year. In this way, we hope to grow public support for human rights here in the UK.

After reading the article and watching the video I believe that we as humans should not ignore these cries for help. Victims of these crimes go to no one for help. I do believe these are global major issues that need to addressed and I believe that everyone is entitled to their freedom and rights no matter what age, ethnicity, gender, or religious beliefs.

I like how he says "And yes, prisoners". Because tragically society seems to forget that prisoners still count as human beings and too often prisoners are abused or mistreated by society.

Traderz AJ You do realise that some people in prisons are innocent, don't you? Look at the poor bloke who got put on death row in the US for decades, finally got released and died a few months later, and the prosecuting lawyer *knew he was innocent!* The lawyer should be prosecuted for attempted murder. It is understandable that if you are the victim of a crime that you want the perpetrator to suffer, but you have to weigh that against the needs of society as a whole. You have to work out *why* you have prisons and what effects you want as a result. If you want a higher crime rate, a higher recidivist rate and more violence generally, then yeah, treat prisoners horrifically.

I agree with AJ. Even thought there's 1 or 2% of innocent people, we should lessen punishment of ALL criminals because of that. That doesn't make any logical sense.

+Matthew Lombard Well, avoiding prisons will save my family. Besides it is not so easy to slaughter in prisons. And appealing to emotions instead of reason is just stupid. Sure people are really upset when their loved ones die, but they are also anything but reasonable.

Yeah they count as human beings I agree with you. They should be forced to work in labor camps to pay their debts to society. Why should a person that took the right of living unjustified of another person be protected, for example?

The biggest tragedy of scrapping the HRA is that it would mean we could not enforce ECHR rights in the UK. We would still have human rights but the added expense and time-lag would mean they would be in name only. Just look at cases like Smith & Grady v UK to see how important the HRA is to our legal system. Why on earth anyone would want human rights legislation written by politicians, I don't know. Human rights are supposed to transcend politics.

+Candide V You have to give it to the Tories, though. They now have a sizeable percentage (possibly a majority) of the population thinking human rights are a bad thing. Hats off to them, they really are good at what they do. This is consummate evil.
@999999k18
@999999k18 9 жыл бұрын
NialasDubh I know; it is sad but true. The problem is that the only time the average Daily Mail or Sun reading citizen ever hears about human rights is when the courts are supposedly letting terrorists stay in a £3m home in Chelsea because they once looked after a cat. This is what the average person knows about human rights and it is really hard to shake that. Couple that with Theresa May always going on about how bad HRs are and blaming human rights for Abu Hamza staying here for a while (ignoring the massive hypocrisy in claiming to be anti-torture but effectively outsourcing it) and you have a terrible anti-HR concoction. I have even met well educated people spouting the rubbish about sovereignty and how Art. 8 is this all powerful clause. It is a feeling that is truly ingrained in the national psyche.

Rights given to use by our constution but never used by those who always had them. Fight for somthing we were given? We dont need to fight for anrthing its never worked in the past. We just need to love the fact that we have them and enjoy them. We fought for our indepence then we said all men are free. But some of us thought they werent men but with love others knew we were. Love not fight injoy what you always had but for a few that told you a lie only to make them some how better. They were sad but mainly stupid those with love in their hearts you were all men. Now act like it because we love you.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13) Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7) When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. thanks for the video... but, wasn't it nice of all those rich elitists to tell us what our human rights are? question... when are they going to start enforcing these "rights" they so kindly granted us? I've yet to hear from any "human rights" advocate who understood anything about human rights! human rights are individual rights, your equal right to choose your own path. we all have the equal right NOT to be oppressed by anyone else. we all have the equal right to a home, medical care that we control, a life time of true education, legal representation, clothing and food. we all have the same equal right to be free. we have the equal right not be beaten by cops, tricked or coerced into contracts that do us harm and to be protected from the predation of the elite or the majority... we have the equal right not to be denied our equal rights for lack of money or to be charged a fee to have our human rights enforced. POVERTY VIOLATES HUMAN RIGHTS! THESE ARE HUMAN RIGHTS! good video!

Here are your human rights in case you are wondering.1. We Are All Born Free & Equal. We are all born free. We all have our own thoughts and ideas. We should all be treated in the same way.2. Don’t Discriminate. These rights belong to everybody, whatever our differences.3. The Right to Life. We all have the right to life, and to live in freedom and safety. 4. No Slavery. Nobody has any right to make us a slave. We cannot make anyone our slave. 5. No Torture. Nobody has any right to hurt us or to torture us. 6. You Have Rights No Matter Where You Go. I am a person just like you! 7. We’re All Equal Before the Law. The law is the same for everyone. It must treat us all fairly. 8. Your Human Rights Are Protected by Law. We can all ask for the law to help us when we are not treated fairly. 9. No Unfair Detainment. Nobody has the right to put us in prison without good reason and keep us there, or to send us away from our country. 10. The Right to Trial. If we are put on trial this should be in public. The people who try us should not let anyone tell them what to do. 11. We’re Always Innocent Till Proven Guilty. Nobody should be blamed for doing something until it is proven. When people say we did a bad thing we have the right to show it is not true. 12. The Right to Privacy. Nobody should try to harm our good name. Nobody has the right to come into our home, open our letters, or bother us or our family without a good reason. 13. Freedom to Move. We all have the right to go where we want in our own country and to travel as we wish. 14. The Right to Seek a Safe Place to Live. If we are frightened of being badly treated in our own country, we all have the right to run away to another country to be safe. 15. Right to a Nationality. We all have the right to belong to a country. 16. Marriage and Family. Every grown-up has the right to marry and have a family if they want to. Men and women have the same rights when they are married, and when they are separated.17. The Right to Your Own Things. Everyone has the right to own things or share them. Nobody should take our things from us without a good reason.18. Freedom of Thought. We all have the right to believe in what we want to believe, to have a religion, or to change it if we want. 19. Freedom of Expression. We all have the right to make up our own minds, to think what we like, to say what we think, and to share our ideas with other people. 20. The Right to Public Assembly. We all have the right to meet our friends and to work together in peace to defend our rights. Nobody can make us join a group if we don’t want to.21. The Right to Democracy. We all have the right to take part in the government of our country. Every grown-up should be allowed to choose their own leaders. 22. Social Security. We all have the right to affordable housing, medicine, education, and childcare, enough money to live on and medical help if we are ill or old. 23. Workers’ Rights. Every grown-up has the right to do a job, to a fair wage for their work, and to join a trade union. 24. The Right to Play. We all have the right to rest from work and to relax. 25. Food and Shelter for All. We all have the right to a good life. Mothers and children, people who are old, unemployed or disabled, and all people have the right to be cared for. 26. The Right to Education. Education is a right. Primary school should be free. We should learn about the United Nations and how to get on with others. Our parents can choose what we learn. 27. Copyright. Copyright is a special law that protects one’s own artistic creations and writings; others cannot make copies without permission. We all have the right to our own way of life and to enjoy the good things that art, science and learning bring. 28. A Fair and Free World. There must be proper order so we can all enjoy rights and freedoms in our own country and all over the world. 29. Responsibility. We have a duty to other people, and we should protect their rights and freedoms. 30. No One Can Take Away Your Human Rights

This lecture really underestimates the fact that human rights were essentially an invention of European white males. The concept of human rights came out of the concept of natural rights, which is a concept unique to Europe, as exemplified in the Magna Carta, the English Bill of Rights of 1688, and the French Declaration of Rights of 1789. The idea of natural rights is about the rights of individuals to freedom of thought, religious freedom, equality under the law, the right to representative institutions, all of which were rights nurtured by European nations, particularly north-Western European nations, articulated by European males, namely, John Locke, Benjamin Constant, Adam Smith, Voltaire, Kant, Thomas Paine, and many others. Here is the full list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_liberal_theorists Human rights remain unfulfilled outside the Western world because the non-Western world barely developed any liberal rights to start with, and less so any concept of human rights. These rights are violated in the non-Western world because of the illiberal and corrupt character of most African and Asian countries.

Why Atsttion protect Bidun rights in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Are we human beings are deprived of their most basic rights to Anmlk function until the mobile segment we can not possess due to the hearts of black people who live with them, and officials do not know mercy, please help and investigate before you, we are human in the end our families and children, guilty of them and why the delay naturalization for more 20 years this may be an injustice if you allowed yourselves conviction that injustice

A have one big question for all this humanity organizations to the only god (because I feel so disappointed an unsuppoted by many who says: we are here near to help the people who need maintain..and were is she ; for me the important is not so much who need really help.because is like selectivity and discrimination .so all we have problems all we need "help"!! all are good people ok we respect .The problem is :who is the most so honestly mercyful to help me, and to understand this mistery, that exist finally golden balance between priority of us chosen "inneeded",and open heart love for all ..thanks god..

Is the implication that historical Queens (lets say Mary 1553 - 1558) Ruled fairly, whereas the Kings of the time did not?

ummm. hold up. 1:06 ....European Convention??? actually, it was the United Nation. Which has ALL the countries of the world, not only European countries. get your facts right....
@MrDeltasquid
@MrDeltasquid 8 жыл бұрын
+Namra Malik The European Convention is a legal document that can be enforced. It was signed by the members of the council of Europe, which is a body that represents countries that are typically considered European. The European Convention was based on the declaration of human rights in the UN, but the latter is more a philosophical document. It holds no legally binding value. The HRA makes the European Convention applicable before British courts, but the UN declaration is still not a legally binding treaty.
