Just stumbled upon your channel by chance and speaking as a 6th year at Cattolica, your information is so accurate and the experiences you mention really align with mine. Well done on creating such a useful resource for the community of international medical students in Italy.

Cadavers. From what I've searched, almost no Italian med school offers cadavers.

Hey Haziz, that is a very fair point and I'm actually working on a YT video about it myself but the short answer is: as an international student it's not that simple, in fact, it's actually designed to be intentionally difficult. :)

Online rankings aren’t really that accurate when it comes to medical schools in italy. A very clear example of this is Sant’Anna vs. Uni of Pisa. Rankings rate Pisa higher than Sant’Anna, although Sant’Anna is the special program of University of Pisa for exceptional talents. When you’re at Sant’Anna you’re also a student at Pisa, but you take additional courses and research with the best scientist italy has to offer. Completely nonsense. Another example is San Raffaele, which is known to have to best hospital in Italy. Italian millionaires go there to receive the best possible treatments from the smartest doctors in the country (and they pay for it), however rankings rate some crap unis with super bad hospitals higher than San Raffaele. The same applies to Humanitas Uni, which remarkably has some of the best facilities, best professors, best “hands-on” teaching with hyper technological devices and one of the best private hospitals in the country. But i get that rankings may be misleading for people who haven’t been living in italy enough to know when to trust an international ranking. Ask an italian if they would either get surgery in Policlinico La Sapienza or Humanitas. You would be surprised to hear they would go to Humanitas if they had the money.

@@emiliomaddalena9603 Well my main point was that you can get the same if not a better deal for almost free. But the truth is that its just easier to get in so most student in private unis just choose the easier way in medschool or just don't pass the public exams, that's at least from what I've seen. As for the rankings, they usually have a point. Rankings are determined based on a huge number of factors, such as teaching quality, research quality, career prospects, student satisfaction and more. I've never heard of a famous doctor in Italy coming from a private uni same for a researcher. They all come from the known public unis, and happen to teach/operate in the private ones for extra cash because it pays a lot. But if you justify going into a private uni instead of a public one because of cool advanced technology at the hospital the reality will probably sink in when you finish med school and realize you could've saved your family 120,000 Euros. Good luck.

@@TheMusciman I don’t know, it seems to me that you’re acting as if you had lived in italy enough to know about the whole university system. What kind of experiences with italian med schools you have? How much have you been living/practicing/studying in italy to know about it? It may be easy for international students to enter private italian unis, but it is not for italian students, as 10k people compete for 120 places. Based on the data that you can find on the internet, humanitas uni students achieve the third highest score in italy at the SSM test for getting into residency. First one in the ranking is san raffaele, which is the most important med school in italy and again it’s private. Private unis have the best research programs for talented students and the best partnerships. Most students are able to get interviews abroad and specialise in the best hospitals in italy. This is a simple fact. I don’t know where you read that professors in these private unis come from public universities, but i can tell you this is mostly wrong. For example, the vast majority of professors that speak on italian tv shows comes from private unis + a considerable amount of alumni go abroad. This trend was even stronger in the past century. I’m not even studying in a private uni, i’m a med student in a public italian university in the north. However, if i read humanitas is not worth the investment i will reply because it’s a fact it’s worth it: you get a better training, you become a better physician and you get a privileged path and a strong network you want to get into residency abroad. Sometimes we gotta ask ourselves if we really think that it’s not worth it or it’s just that we can’t afford it.
