The elephant in this video has unfortunately been injured by a trap gun, which has caused its wounds to become infected and form abscesses. The villagers noticed the elephant walking uncomfortably and quickly informed the range officers. Trap guns are typically used by villagers to protect their crops from wild boars that come to the village to destroy their cultivation. Unfortunately, sometimes elephants can accidentally trigger these traps and get injured. It's important to note that the villagers do not intend to harm elephants and are doing their best to protect their crops.
It's important to understand that an elephant is not like a human who can patiently sit still while receiving medical treatment. Due to their wild nature, elephants can become agitated and defensive when they sense a threat. To ensure the safety of both the team and the elephant, it's necessary to sedate the animal. This allows the team to perform necessary medical procedures without causing harm to the elephant or putting themselves at risk.
To sedate the elephant, the range officers use a dart gun to administer the sedative drug directly into the elephant's muscles. The drug is typically given to the back of the elephant, and once it takes effect, the team can begin providing medical treatment. Due to the severity of the elephant's wounds, it's crucial to act quickly in administering antibiotics, multivitamins, and other necessary medications. The medications must be given even before cleaning the wound, as the elephant has already developed an infection that must be addressed immediately to prevent it from spreading throughout the body.
Then the team proceeds to clean the elephant's wounds using saline solution. This step is critical in treating the infection, and the team must remove all maggots from the wound. However, cleaning the wounds of a wild animal like an elephant can be dangerous, even when the animal is sedated. While the elephant is not fully unconscious, the team must exercise caution as they work to avoid any sudden movements that could endanger their safety. Despite
the risks involved, the team is dedicated to saving the elephant's life and is committed to doing everything in their power to ensure a successful recovery.
It may be asked why the team cannot lay the elephant down to treat its wounds. However, due to the elephant's immense size, it is not possible to lift it once it's lying down without the assistance of heavy machinery. Additionally, one of the elephant's legs is already wounded, so it would not be able to stand up on three legs. Since these treatments take place in the forest, it is not feasible to bring in heavy machinery to assist in lifting the animal. Hence, the team treats the elephant while it is standing.
The wound on the elephant's leg is severely infected, with a significant buildup of pus. Additionally, upon closer examination, small pellets and metal pieces that were used as ammunition in the trap gun were found to have penetrated through the animal's skin and are now dispersed throughout the wound.
Not many people know about the trap gun. It's made illegally and is used to protect crops and animals from wild creatures. The gun is placed on sticks and shoots pieces of metal as bullets. The trigger is connected to a cord that runs across the path where animals might walk. If someone or something trips the cord, the gun goes off and can seriously hurt them. The gun can cause injuries similar to those from shotguns or rifles. It's not just used by farmers but also by hunters. Recently, someone died because of a trap gun injury. A careful examination of the injuries can determine if it was caused by a trap gun.
The elephant has three significant wounds on its leg, which are infected with pus and maggots. The team is carefully cleaning these wounds using saline solution and cotton swabs. Once the wounds are thoroughly cleaned, they apply a mixture of Betadine & Negasunt powder to help prevent further infection.
Wildlife officials play a crucial role in protecting and preserving the natural habitats of various species. They are dedicated to ensuring the safety and welfare of wildlife, often working in challenging and remote areas. They often put themselves at risk to protect endangered species and combat illegal activities such as poaching and trafficking. Despite the dangers and
