Aesthete cultures have a rep for being difficult to earn the era stars for, however the active bonus is really good. Triggering this for a little gold instantly provides a ton of influence. While this isn't counted as generated influence for the era star, you can use the influence to claim territory by building an outpost, then instant build extractors and harbours and finally attach to the city. This tactic, along with the one described in the vid for Expansionist cultures, are fabulous ways of dominating land grabs and claiming resources.

I'd advise strongly against auto explore in most all circumstances. At the start of the game, the most crucial thing units can do is kill mammoths, second is gather food, and least valuable is the curiosities. So you will need to navigate having units spread out to cover ground, but also, group up to kill mammoths. This balancing act is how to make the most of your tribes and stockpile hundreds of influence to get two early cities growing in tandem.

@jogzyg20363 жыл бұрын
The expansionist ability is actually pretty terrible, explained or otherwise. It's usually much better to just go to war in my experience. If your raid is interrupted, you lose all the money you spent on it, if you go to war you can grab multiple territories at once, you weaken your rivals and as if that wasn't enough, you work towards the militarist stars and the expansionist stars at the same time.
@PedroHawk13 жыл бұрын
@@jogzyg2036 you can do that without going to war. Skirmishes are a thing. But there are a few reasons as for why you don't necessarily want to go to war. One of them is that war support isn't trivial to get. And if you're not in a war, you don't need to bother with it. Another one is that you might not want other players to know that you're fighting a neighbor.

Enjoy your vids. Great info. A few questions: 1. Is there any way once out of the Neolithic age to generate units other than city production? 2. Is there a turn number sweet spot for changing eras? 3. Pros/cons for attaching outposts and when to do it.
@PartyElite3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! 1 - yes, but that's specific to certain cultures. Off the top of my head, I believe the Assyrians can recruit units from outposts, and Huns and Mongols have emblematic units that multiply like tribes do in the neolithic era 2 - I'm sure there is but to be honest, I haven't identified it yet! 3 - Cons are the hit to stability, and the need to queue extractors and harbours rather than being able to instant-build using influence. Some cultures can also use outposts as spawn points for adjacent cities, which can be huge! Pros are - everything else! The exploitation of those tiles, the use of regular districts, the ability to recruit regular units, the ability to build land unit spawn point buildings anywhere in the region. The perfect time, imho, is once extractors have been insta-built using influence, unless you're low on influence, and urgently need said resources, in which case I'd go sooner rather than later. Be careful though because population *and* exploitations get immediately added to the parent city, so you might get some boosted numbers, but you might also see some famine if the numbers add up in such a way! I hope that helps!

I think that was an interesting decision because of the way that combat works on this, it is 80% terrain and control over advantages e disadvantages, like one unit can reeeeally out duel a copy of itself if it uses even just one of the terrain advantages. So I think that’s why there are so many different elevation and barriers and such. I found them very interesting but also very frustrating at times, like once that my units could not be deployed beyond the 1 unit because the deplorable area was just 1 tile, but I’d prefer have to deal with that then just smash units agains each other in a plain field

Not sure if this is common knowledge or no here, but what I have figured is that you don't need huge horde army to take a city, it's just a waste of time and you'll be more inclined to use the auto battle option which will waste resources. Better to optimise your units for both scale and to counter what you're are up against, having 8 spear units is wonderful against another unit that uses horses for en example. Also very important thing for conquering another nation, focus on smaller skirmishes, draw the enemies units out by ransacking smaller towns and resources areas first. you can get a better upper hand in terms of placement and you take control over where you're fighting and what units to use to counter. Doing seiging it can be good to take your time and just hold it under seige till they surround, collect what you took and then start start another seige with better and healed units and seige weapons. The enemy will also be much weaker and you'll have more control over and resources, pluss a much closer spawn point if took over a smaller city for units, healing and upgrading. Together with re enforcements being extremely close and constantly in the make.

the video tutorials in-game are pretty handy but they do leave a few things out... best way to learn the basics IMO is to just play through the first couple eras and reset if you feel like the game is stagnating or you're not sure what to do. Playing on blitz speed with easy AI makes this more bearable. The nature of games like this is that your options expand and decisions get more complex the longer the game goes on, like a branching tree. A poor decision early on can have huge impacts later. So if you just practice the basics of getting out of neolithic and into ancient, you'll learn a lot more easily IMO because there's less to think about. Just play through the early game and try to find the best ways to earn era stars, earn fame, and advance your empire as you move into classical and maybe even medieval. When you repeat these early stages of the game its much less stressful, you can start messing around with how you arrange your districts, and some basics of interacting with independent cultures and diplomacy / skirmishes etc. and you can experiment with prioritizing different technologies and playing with different cultures. Experimenting and starting over is the best way to learn. If you feel like a playthrough has potential and you're routinely setting goals and meeting them, stick with it and go for the win. But generally when I'm just practicing the game and trying out different strategy I'll just reset a run if I don't know where I'm going next. There's not much to be gained from dragging out a game that I'm clearly going to lose.

I had to look that one up too because it wasn't obvious. To those who are wondering, you have to ransack the city after you conquer it. A minor flaw in a game with several minor flaws that will hopefully be patched out, but still a very enjoyable game worthy of the 9/10 ratings it's getting imo. Excellent video PE. Got me a question that I was hoping you would have addressed. I have had a couple of games completely ruined by war resolutions and independent peoples' assimilation. When the territories are added to ours, they come directly in the form of cities. Sometimes I have gone beyond the limit of addressing this with influence tweaks and set myself on a spiral of losing influence. I just wanted to know if there is any way to get territories from conquered enemies or independent peoples in the form of outposts instead of cities so we can add them at our leisure. I think there is an option to "liberate" a city but I haven't tried it.
@PartyElite3 жыл бұрын
You can actually ransack any city under your control to get rid of it, and then you can replace it with an outpost you establish. Keep in mind, though, that none of the districts in the region that have been previously built will be worth anything until this outpost is attached or re-evolved into a city, but the tiles don't get destroyed either, so you'll have immediate access to them when said attachment/upgrade is done! I hope that answers your query =). Let me know if not!
@joaoabegao28883 жыл бұрын
@@PartyElite I had seen you do that in your older videos, was just making sure that some trick hadn't slip my radar. Considering ransacking and building from the ground up or being less ambitious in territorial gain, wouldn't you say that accepting money and one or two territories at at a time would be better, and just launch a new offensive afterwards? The thing that breaks the expansionist tendency is the exponential loss of influence, so maybe it is good to temper our ambitions. Accept one or two new territories, leave them as stand alone cities or absorb them, and when the situation is under control,rinse and repeat.

1:57 Yes and no. Early game the autoexplore is crazy effective, as if fog of the map doesn't exist for its algorithym. Super cheesey. I suspect this is why ai players are good at claiming so many outposts early. I reccommend you MONITOR AUTOEXPLORE UNITS FREQUENTLY. Many times I have had auto explore units simply go back and forth between two or three hexes in a loop. Super ineffective. Midgame I had a land unit deploy into vulnerable transports and get stuck in a loop on ocean tiles.... SIGH.

You're lucky. I had several land units deploy with a Man of War, only for the units to disappear mid journey. Talking something like 4 knights and 2 heavy swordsman. Man of War got to the destination, but all units with it just did not exist any more. Happened a few times prior, when I followed the Man of War I managed to confirm it. So clearly they weren't embarked, they must have had their own transport (Caravel or Carrack - that doesn't show up at all) that gets swamped or lost at sea. Guessing that although I was in the era of Caravels, and Man of War, the units I had only utilised their respective era transport and don't get "loaded into" the Man of War or Caravel itself.

This is due to 2 things. 1. Auto-Explore only knows where spawns are possible. 2. Spawns are only possible at static spawners that are outside all empire vision. As empires expand, spawn tiles that are visible get disabled, and since Auto-Explore only cares about the closest possible spawn the feature completely breaks mid-late game.

If you are referring population stolen from your cities that is an agrarian culture affinity action. However, Huns are not agrarian. The affinity action of militarist cultures, and the Huns, is Iron Reserves that allow instantly raising militia armies (like citizens who defend their cities under siege) I'm not sure but I don't suppose Huns can use this affinity action on cities occupied by enemies during war times.
