Not when literally everyone is doing it. It’s overdone. Honestly the best HFY stories are those where we win not because of stupidly advanced technology which we have stupidly kept secret for stupid reasons, but because of US; our imagination, our creativity, our compassion, our craftiness. The only sorts of HFY stories that make the tech angle work are those which have us as the elder race in the galaxy, because then it makes SENSE that we would have the advantage there.
