I absolutely love my 6.5 inch half-lug barrel model 500 with integral compensator and ports built into the barrel. I am enamored with the way it looks and balances. Not for sale ever, but to be passed on to my son.

I see you got it working.....I've got these same two S&W's .500's, and I did pay a lot more for the 4" incher, but it was money well spent. I enjoy the hell out of them, but not as often as I'd like, it can get a little costly shooting more than once a month, with these two. I even bought two Galco matching holsters for them, why I don't know, just did I guess. I hope you enjoy your's as much as I do......Take care brother Paul, and keep safe.

I had a hard time choosing when I bought mine!!! Years ago, I bought a raging bull with 8 3/8 barrel and since I didn't buy it solely to hunt with, it was too much to try and carry daily!!! I ended up trading it for a 300 ultra magnum but about a year ago I went to Cabellas and there was both of these guns in the display!!! I thought long and hard on it and bought the 4 inch!!! Never been happier!!!

I use the cast bullet muzzle-brake exclusively because it also shoots jacketed bullets and seals the top ports off and creates what amounts to making it the actual barrel length of the barrel.

My buddy let me put several rounds through his 4-inch barrel with compensator, and even though I'm a novice gun-person, I can totally appreciate your comments about the trigger on that thing. It was SO easy to aim. I was hitting 4-out-of-5 soda cans, from about 30-yards, without a problem. Dare I say it was a bit easier to shoot than my .44 DE... :) I still love my DE, though. If I can get another gun, it will be the S&W .500 :D

I agree S&W made a work of art with the X frame. I own two .460s and one of the first .500s. I find the 460s shoot flatter and may be harder kicking than the 500. The 500 is more accurate. Yes they have better actions than my Pythons. Thanks for the excellent presentation.
@MrKgaines710708 жыл бұрын
The compensator screw is reverse threaded. You turn it clockwise to loosen and release the grip on the compensator. If you put an Allen wrench in there and crank on it the wrong way to release the compensator, you will almost certainly strip out the screw and end up sending it back to the factory to get it fixed.

I’ve got the 4” spent forever polishing and getting the machine marks out. I started reloading for it. If I couldn’t reload it I’d not like it as much. I can make lower power loads and blackpowder loads I cast the 440 lee shooting black powder out of these is a lot of fun and less experienced shooters can shoot those loads. But beware they bruisers don’t let new shooters shoot but one rd in the cylinder at a time. Their known to bump fire !

I have a 500 and a 460. The 460 is far more versatile as it can fire several different cartridges. It also shoots much flatter. The 500 hits much harder with the heavy bullets so that would be a little better for dangerous game.
@CZ5307 жыл бұрын

To be fair you are comparing a J frame revolver to an X-Frame. Most .357s are K frame are larger and arguably your .357s that are made to take a lot of full house loads are L frames and even N Frames if you go real old school classic design. That revolver is much bigger and would not look that tiny in comparison but yes the .500 S&W MAG anyway you slice it is the largest most powerful production handgun in existence.

No disrespect but if you are asking these questions it is obvious you don’t know much about the shooting sports. This should not be your first weapon. Get a 22lr handgun first and learn how to shoot properly and safely. Next get a 357 revolver and learn it. Then decide if you still desire a 500 S&W magnum revolver.
