No, Ares & Athena took Deimos before the events of GOW1 in an attempt to prevent a prophecy that foretold that a marked warrior would overthrow the gods from coming true...since it was Kratos who eventually took down Olympus, Thanatos was referring that Ares should of taken him instead.
