If anybody still reads these, I am really enjoying learning about UK canal life.

Yep - and I assume you’ve looked at the rest of my videos too?

If you aren't British, you can still hire a canal boat and come over for a holiday.

im form houston, and these are some BABY number, rookie numbers cant even compare. but nice to see commercial use of the locks instead of a leisure use

Yeah 500 tonne doesn't cut it really but the government won't spend on carrying by water even on bigger rivers it's hard unless it's already on a boat and the wharf still happens to exist. There are small grants to help, but it's not enough to get the traffic off the roads where it's point to point rather than intermodal. Most businesses have now moved away from the waterways favouring better road communication so it will never get better unfortunately. Just niche traffic left now especially on the smaller commercial canals.

If the canal authorities were to remove the plant life from their wooden lock gates then they might find that the gates will last longer.

Seems like a bowthruster wouldn't be an unnescessery luxury on the "Humber Princess"... That's driving a ship the proper old fashion way. :-)

Only good for canals and rivers with a depth greater than 3,5 meters as it looks.

i wondered if it has bow thrusters?
@baconsandwich20077 жыл бұрын
kyle jervis I used to catch a lift on these tankers from Woodlesford to Leeds when I was a kid. I know Humber Jubilee and Humber Pride had bow thrusters and as these are the same design, I would have thought that it would. They may have been removed over time though.

You can hear the bow thruster engine when she leaves the second lock and onto the river. Notice the white smoke as it revs up - they don't need it often.

At about the 7:10 mark or so I thought I saw blue smoke coming from the forepeak
