This was actually written by a school teacher who wanted to teach her students to be better people, growing up. I can't remember how but, somehow a copy reached Tim McGraw, he FELT the message and ended up being able to record it. I know there's more to this story but, I can't remember it. I DO remember that the teacher won an award as the writer at the 75th annual CMAs I also remember Miss Dolly Parton being there along with a LOT of older/old school Country Music stars. It was a big anniversary for the CMAs.

During the last few days of school, my 8th grade ELA teacher taught us about generosity and showing good character. Basically, being a hero. I remember when she first played this song and everyone thought it was stupid because most kids that go to my school don't like country music. But after a while, as she played it everyday in the classroom, it stuck to us. Eventually, on the last day of school, we all got together and sung this as we left to go on the bus. Leaving our friends and teachers behind. We cried and laughed and danced. And I never really thought much about the meaning of the song, but now since I'm in high school it actually taught me a lot about life. Now I become friends with those who need them most, I never brag about my talents and be modest, I never put others down. It taught me how to be a good person; how to be a hero. I think what the lyrics are saying is that you can celebrate when you succeed. Go out to dinner because you graduated college, for example. To allow your achievements to give you confidence (healthy pride), so that you can use it as fuel to make progress forward! Be happy! ❤ But I also think the lyrics are saying not to allow that confidence to turn into arrogance: don't think you're above everyone else, therefore owed the world. Ahh i love comimg across this song. It brings about a great peace to my heart and unto my soul. This was the song that my mama dedicated me to shortly before she passed away. My mama passed away 2/28/20, as her health was poorly failing, and I swear every time i hear this, I just hear my mama and it makes me sad. But it also makes me happy to know that she isn't hurting anymore, but it is certainly heartbreaking to be caught in the middle. So I hope anyone who hears this and thinks of someone they lost, please take my love too❤❤

This is gonna sound stupid and ridiculous, but I started to cry hysterically after I left my mom in her bed...since she has a cold and a headache, I stayed with her and made her feel better. And today my Dad brought me to Michael's and we heard this song and I started crying just because it was so deeply touching... When I left my mom...
