Steve was the original front man for The Small Faces before Rod Stewart. Whenever I watch Steve, with his band Humble pie in this video from back in 1973, it gives me chills. I always love how he makes it obvious how much he loves singing with those backing singers, who are also superb. It's just a wonderful example of what a great rock/soul singer he was, but tragically, he died in a house fire back in the '80's. May God rest his dear sweet soul. He was truly a 'one-off'.

Steve loved and respected his Blackberries and they loved him. All these girls had sung backup to Steve's heroes Ray Charles & Ike & Tina. Vanetta Fields (middle) has written that when she first met Steve, he got down on his knees and kissed her hand - what a charmer. She said "He was sometimes outrageous, but we loved him"

Pure mastery and pure, unadultered enjoyment: Stevie was the embodyment of passion and energy. And to think that he could have stayed comfortably seated in his theatrical child prodigy sofa or his British Invasion sofa (with the Small Faces)... Instead he chose to start a garage band that spawned Peter Frampton and that gave Grand Funk Railroad (at their prime) a run for their money. Legend has it that Stevie auditioned for the Rolling Stones and that the Glimmer Twins, great though they were, decided "no way we're touching this firecracker"...

Forgive me, perhaps I misunderstood what you are saying, but feel I must correct. Although Steve did have a substance abuse problem., he did not OD on drugs. The day he died, he had flown back to Britain from LA. He was afraid to fly, so took Valium and drank quite a bit on the plane. When He arrived, friends took him out for dinner where he drank more and must have done a little coke as they found it in his blood. Around 1:00 he went home, jet lagged and tired from drink and valium and fell asleep in bed with a cigarette. His bed caught afire and he died from smoke inhalation according to the coroner. Horrifying...

Although he was "officially" 5'4" (maybe with his elevator boots - LOL), people close to him say he was really maybe 5'2" and about 100 lbs. He was a consummate performer starting at age 13 when he played the Artful Dodger on the London stage - thus the remark in the introduction. Please show more Marriott - too many people have never heard of him and need to be exposed. His entire Small Faces, Humble Pie, Packet of Three and solo catalog is full of masterpieces.
