Thank you for this! It can be so overwhelming trying to choose ingredients! Probably one of my biggest downfalls was buying too many. It hurts more pitching a half full bottle of essential oil because it expired than a test batch gone bad😣 Time flies!! I think sometimes I would buy things so I’d get free shipping however I am much more selective now and as a TIP: personally It helps me to create a few recipes I know I will make in a couple months then purchase ingredients I need for those recipes/formulations based on the amounts I’ll need, much like planning dinners for a week or two. ALSO! If at the grocery store ALWAYS check expiration dates! It’s near impossible to get all ingredients in one place but it helps a lot to do that part of the planning first 🙂 I hope that may help someone. Thanks again Marie you’re Awesome 🙂

@@MommaOsoIrish67 expiration dates save for a few exceptions are a scam. Manufacturers have taught a whole generation that they should throw away items my childern have fallen fo this lie . use your brain because salts ,sugars, and honey NEVER EXPIRE . Salt can be thousands of years old yet some company will stick a expire date on it . think about it

Absolutely wonderful guide to start. Hey, everyone starts somewhere, I did and under a hundred dollars. Now I have a few thousand dollars worth. However, that is 10 years in, lol! Go slow work with a few then add one or two ingredients at a time. I had several oils and butters already from making cold process soap. I sell a great deal of soap. I moved on to body butters and lip balms next. With all the flavored oils out there and sweeteners, it can be a large rabbit hole if you like different flavors! Peppermint is still my favorite out of about 30! So be careful. The tubes are cheap and that really gets you thinking, they are very sellable and inexpensive to make. I read the blog post, read it! Marie has gone way beyond just general details. It's an excellent read! Jill

When I’m testing a formulation I try to rebelt it to tweek the recipe… and usually when I do this I’m just looking for the right consistency. I know I’m not supposed to melt and re-melt over and over again but it’s just the test with tweaking the test batch. That way when I’m really creating a batch to sell… I’m not ever needing to remelt it to tweak the batch. Also, I have so many test batches of stuff that I actually use even if it doesn’t have all the ingredients that ended up in the final product, so my tests never go to waste! Everything I have is oils butters and waxes so they’re all good for your skin regardless

Marie have you worked with PEG 150 Distearate? I have been using Crothix pastilles ( PEG 150 PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRASTEARATE) for my shampoo formulations but my seller in Indonesia suddenly stopped shipping in the Philippines. A local seller here said I can also use PEG 150 distearate to thicken my shampoos. I am clueless how to use it though, do I just heat to melt it and mix surfactants just like how I use crothix pastilles?

@HumblebeeAndMe3 жыл бұрын
I touch on hair ingredients a bit in Part 2, but I think I could do another set of videos entirely on haircare ingredients-there's definitely some overlap with skincare, but there are also ingredients that I'd consider "must have" for hair and "nice to have" for skin, so they wouldn't make this list since it's more skincare focussed, but they'd definitely make an equivalent haircare list. Would you be interested in a haircare list? :)

Great info, I wish you would have done this sort of video before. I bought your book and a lot of product before I really new what I was doing. I watch all your videos and it seems like you're always using a new product. In the part 2 will you be making and using some of the basic ingredients? And how do you get gifted with so many things?
@HumblebeeAndMe3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the content + the video format. I wrote a blog post like this all the way back 2011, and I've had an FAQ covering similar content up since 2019, but I love how video allows for some proper "show & tell"! I also know a lot more now than I did in 2011 😆 Part 2 will be the other 5 ingredients since this is a 10 item list, but I love the idea of doing some comparing, and also perhaps a part 3 on some formulations that could be made with (or easily modified to use) the 10 ingredients we're covering ❤️ I am very fortunate to be gifted so many of the ingredients I use now, and I really try not to lose sight of that. I assume the business case for sending me product is a combination of publicity and teaching-I let my readers know about a product, where it can be purchased, and what they can do with it, and the value of all of that exceeds the cost of the product :)
