What how ? I did 462,000km on my r36 engine, and never did the chain once ? It’s called service it sooner soon as oil goes bad I did my service very 6000kms for oil changes. Idk why the r32 needs to be forged unlike the r36 motor they run stock internals at 700hp. Which mind blows me. Now I know why many in Europe pick the r36 motor instead of r32.

Watching you put all of this together brought back memories of when I did the chains, guides, & tensioners on a 12v 01.5 GTI VR6. My first time doing anything involved with the block, and holy crap was that a job and a half. Mostly solo. Obviously this is much different of an engine for many reasons, as is this job starkly different from mine, but seeing how it is you put all of this together made me think of all the little things that I could have done better. This is a great resource, especially as these cars are getting to the age now where a rebuild of the block would be a huge benefit to bring back another 15+ years of life. From a mechanical engineering point of view: Thread depth depends on materials threaded into, the material the fastener is made of, the fastener diameter, thread pitch, and stretch. When bolting into cast iron, as long as you thread as deep as the thread's diameter, you should be fine. (1 1/2 times diameter for aluminum)
