Thanks Acer! Great video to remember our first time on the trail with the Hummer EV! Thanks again for having the torx for removing the loose rear mud flap. Lucky that was the only casualty of the day! Frank

@Frank You listen to spotters well- guessing not a roockie off roading with groups? The slow acceleration seemed difficult - kinda jumpy off the line. The instant torque and acceleration is fun in the ev I have driven- was that a problem with yours? Like maybe gm needs a fine control override option for tight areas?

@@hummervs3278 Great idea, would throttle down the torque response for nimble maneuvers. Sort of like the Chill mode Tesla has

@@garageczar exactly. Hey, did he tell you sign up on HummerNetworkforums yet? You’ll get harassed for not a “real” hummer at first, but keep using it like it should be and the guys will relax. Haha. A bunch of us really want to see how they do off road and just more folks that enjoy it the better imo.

The new Hummer looks pretty good just wish they made a V8 version

That definitely would be cool, however gas and EV vehicles are two completely different animals in terms of their design and construction. If GM were to make a GAS version I am guessing only 30% of the parts would be shared with both versions, so in effect GM would have to create an entirely new vehicle and I doubt they would do that since they are pushing EVs so hard.

I would like to see the comparison on hill climbs and places you would only take a jeep on 38s. Places where you would drag nose, belly and tail. And last showing the tipping point

You bet lol. Yeah I am guessing the average size 4WD vehicle that goes though those trails are a Jeep and if you have anything longer or wider, things will be a little bit tighter.

That is fair point, but I am not a journalist. This is real video from an actual EV owner taking his rig offroad from our Hummer Club Inc. 30th Anniversary of the Hummer H1 event. I would have loved to have filmed a rock crawling test, but our Hummer group that day was really only doing easy trails and the EV owner did not want to push it to the limit since he had to drive it home.

The ev looks a little too jumpy on the throttle, due to the 1000horse power electric motors with instantaneous torque and zero input lag.

Watching the rear-steer was pretty cool, but honestly my Taco wouldn't require nearly the back-and-forth...the age of the overly wide offroaders needs to come to an end... Also..have to laugh at the kid gloves these guys have with their $100k Hummers :)
@4lowmode
@4lowmode 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah there aren't that many wide vehicles out there. Most of the trails are designed for Mid-Size 4 door SUVs now. I was very happy going through these exact same obstacles with my H3 with no help required lol.

Seems like the EV didn't like to crawl very well. Lot of gas then brake
@4lowmode
@4lowmode Жыл бұрын
This is the interesting thing about EVs. You can't really slowly let off the brake to creep your way forward because there is no transmission torque converter pushing the vehicle forward at idle. So that means you must use the accelerator pedal to move forward, or else you won't move at all. That leads to some very jerky and finicky movements.
@tonierbuckle0202
@tonierbuckle0202 Жыл бұрын
Some evs (i know for certain ford's mach-e and f-150 lightning) give you an option in the center screen to turn on creeping so it can simulate a torque converter. If the hummer ev doesnt have that, then it feels like an oversight that could maybe be added later through an over the air update
@iansampson2515
@iansampson2515 Жыл бұрын
@@tonierbuckle0202 Yeah I would have to agree. With all the advanced features that Hummer comes with, especially off-road ones, you would think they would have thought of that. But it only makes sense Ford has it bc Ford is King lol

This looks like the most boring form of driving I have ever seen.
@4lowmode
@4lowmode 2 жыл бұрын
Offroad driving is completely different than racing or rallying. Most of the time you are going under 5mph and you are trying to navigate through technical obstacles and terrain. It's very slow. You practice throttle control and only go as fast as necessary. You don't want to break things when you are in the middle of a trail. Offroad driving and racing around a track are two completely different worlds my friend.

@@kclewell Well ya considering it took my H3 10 seconds to drive through these same trees, this is a lot slower. That being said I like any offroad stuff that requires technical spotting so I didn't mind doing this.
