After completing the transfer case shift fork replacement... I am happy to report that my 06 H3 rolls freely now and I am getting about 18 mpg city now, up from about 13 mpg with the drag from old fork not functioning properly ! Saw your video and it is very intuitive. So it looks like I have the dreaded broken plastic shift Fork. Am I able to open up my transfer case myself, and just change out the plastic shift Fork to metal without disturbing anything else and put it back together. I don't want to mess with realigning the planetary gear or anything if possible.
@diymechanictv12333 жыл бұрын
There is a chance you'll need to realign the planetaries when the case comes apart. To be honest, it's been long enough now that I do t recall whether the planetaries came apart when I split the case or if I separated them for inspection, but if lining them back up is a deal breaker for you, I'd suggest letting someone else do the work. Thanks for watching!

thanks for the nice video. I do have questions please. for the last 1 and half month ago I accidentally was driving with 4WD high lock. must be my hand touching those botton while I'm cleaning the interior. so what happening is, every time before park with Sharp turn right either forward or backward in parking lot, I have hard time because the vehicle won't move and make some noise so I went to straighten the wheels and backing up with no proble m. I call my friend telling him what happening and he said something to do with the 4WD. so I check the bottom and I notice it's was for a while (1& half month I have been driving 4WD high lock. ) so I make switch to normal 4WD regural. and everything sound back to normal except the noise coming on and off only when I driving slow sharp turn in parking lot. my question to you is : did i broke anything in the transfer case or not? what are the noise you think? thanks for your help and advice.

Hi. Hopefully you see this in time. My '06 H3 stopped functioning while my daughter was on her way to work. So I went to where she was at and got in my truck. Turned it on and went to go reverse, it sounded like grinding but not technically a noise to hurt the ears! I asked my daughter if she went to drive it to pull it off road and she said it made the same noise. So at this moment, I am about to get under my truck and see how much gear oil I have in my transfer case. However, from watching part 1 of your video. I am leaning with thinking I may have to take the whole unit out. Are you familiar with any sounds that come from the transfer case?
@diymechanictv12332 жыл бұрын
Hey there, I have heard a similar sound before when the transfer case slips into neutral. It's possible that the chain in the case broke, but it's also possible that the fork I repla Ed in this video failed and the case is between 2wd and neutral. Try shifting it into 4x4 and see if it catches and will move. At any rate, somebody needs to check out the transfer case. Good luck!

Wow your the man. All the GM part numbers much appreciated. Have you ever heard/ dealt with modifying the case to be selectable 2wd?
@diymechanictv1233 Жыл бұрын
Glad you found the video to be helpful. I've never heard of modifying the case to be selectable for 2H, but that would be a cool feature if it's doable. I'd imagine it would involve changing some "hard parts" to incorporate a split shaft and locking collar.

@diymechanictv12332 жыл бұрын
If you had a shop do the repairs, I think you need to talk with them about making it right. Even if the encoder motor was bad when you took it in, you have fixed that issue and still have a problem. How could the shop have verified their repair if the system was not working?

@DIYMechincTV. I get a vibration when driving above 2500 rpm. Was thinking i needed to get my drive axles re-balanced. Took it to the shop and that wasn't the case. They showed me where my rear axel went into the transfer case and was a little warped. They believe there was something wrong with the transfer case but did not have the expertise to fix it. Do you think it could be the same nylon fork that you mention in your video? Would that cause vibration when driving?
@diymechanictv12335 жыл бұрын
I don't see the fork causing a vibration while driving. That does sound like something out of balance.

@@diymechanictv1233 I just really want to make sure that there isnt a major issue with my transfer case. I just put alot of money into it getting the engine rebuilt
@diymechanictv12335 жыл бұрын
@@davidharvey6253 I don't see where this issue would be associated with the transfer case. I would attempt to determine whether the vibration is related to engine speed or to ground. For instance, if you lock the engine into a different gear and go above 2500 RPM and you feel the vibration reagrdless of what the ground speed is, then I would look at the engine as the possible source of the vibration. If it is related more closely to a specific ground speed (MPH) and is there even if you change the gear selection of the transmission (like taking it out of overdrive) then I would look at driveline components or even a tire imbalance/tread separation, or something along those lines. Knowing whether it is tied to engine speed or to vehicle (ground) speed tells you which way to approach the troubleshooting.
@davidharvey62535 жыл бұрын
@@diymechanictv1233 thank you for the insight. I can tell you its definately more related to ground speed. Mainly about 50 MPH. I will check for a tire imbalance for sure. Other than that, what else could be the issues with a driveline component? Would you mean wheel bearings possibly?

Hi Great video, I have a problem with my Hummer think it could be this. I was reversing and something popped had no drive forward or backwards. once i got the vehicle jacked up realized the e-brake had seized on could this have caused the fork to pop and maybe put the transfer case into neutral hence no drive. Its a standard transmission?

I followed your video and all went well except the shift motor shaft. I cannot install the shift motor onto the shaft and the shaft has limited movement so I think I messed up when I put it back in.
@diymechanictv12336 жыл бұрын
It's possible that the case is not in neutral (or in whatever position the motor is in). See if the shaft will move freely if you move it manually (using a pliers or similar). If not, then I hate to say it, but you may have to pull it apart again and see what isn't aligned correctly.
@EDGAR15ish3 жыл бұрын
@@diymechanictv1233 what do you mean aligned correctly? Im about to pull mine and I dont want to mess up also what type of seal did yoy use?
@diymechanictv12333 жыл бұрын
Just be careful when you put the shift motor back on that you get the motor aligned with the shaft so that they lock together correctly. For the seal, I just used Permatex Ultra Gray silicone sealant.

@diymechanictv12335 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if you could see it or not, or if you could, whether you would be able to tell if it was nylon or aluminum. A cheap bore scope, might be the way to go! Grab a USB bore scope and let us know what you find! It might just save you a few hours' time.
