Good tips mate. I’m at the stage of buying my first finder for average use and I think it would definitely be important not to get caught up in the technology too much! I’m between a Garmin and Humminbird in more of a basic unit at this stage

I have seen some but not any fishermen using them. I also understand that there is a lot of technique involved when using electronics I have a Helix 7 and I honestly think that you're basic fish finder is all you need. All of these advancements are getting a little out of hand in my opinion. I'm also a avid Hunter here out west and all the advancements in firearms optics and these game cameras are ruining the pursuit fair hunting to me. I just wonder when do all these technical advancements stop and when is it unfair?

it has become ridicules it takes 10,000$worth of electronic to be in the game not to mention how many batteries you have to have on board. what did happen to the days of going fishing?

Low Budget Bassin how about you start that series and don’t forget to add just one rod and reel while standing on one leg... 🙄

My Lowrance unit broke. I mailed it to their service center and they mailed it back with a note that said it was obsolete. It was only 3 years old. They did send a 50 dollar off coupon towards a new one but I just paid 650 for the fishfinder. So I bought a Humminbird. Humminbird stocks its components so repairs can be done for 20 years. Function aside, repairability is very important.

Hey Miles great info thanks I fish from a kayak and obviously don't have the room so if I have to pick just one?
@SimpleGreen20175 жыл бұрын
Humminbird has best side and down imaging. Garmin is leading live-image sonar. Lowrance 2d in my experience has best high speed depth reading. I chose Garmin for versatility. Panoptix is an awesome tool for ice fishing and it is nice to be able to move head unit between ice fishing and boat bail mounts.

This guy is staying neutral just in case one of these companies might want to sponsor him. Your everyday fisherman is the only person you can count on for a true assessment regarding the electronics they've used. With that said, Lowrance is terrible for many reasons and is why I'm even watching this videos right now.
@Smartiebob3175 жыл бұрын
Agree this is not a Hum vs Low video. Commentor just beats around the boat without any comparisons.

Am I the only angler that’s old school, where I go and fish without a fish-finder ? If you need 3 fish-finders to catch fish, it’s not fun. Electronics has ruined the fun of going out there, and actually finding fish yourself.
@HaasGrotesk3 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying and to some extent I even agree. Maybe 3 fish finders is a bit overkill but I use a simple Garmin fish finder to just find fish and I gotta say that it's a time saver. I've gone to lakes where there "should" be fish but I combed the whole lake and found 2 fishes. It saved me a bunch of time instead of just standing and fishing in to nothing.

On the Garmin technology- "Panoptix shows you everything... Everybody will be able to utilize this technology with different brands in the future." Seems like the other manufacturers are back in the stone age.

360 imaging is better than pan optics
@lbz_on_crack5 жыл бұрын
Nah 360 has to take like 5 seconds to update a spot on the circle. Panoptics is real time -this is coming from a hummingbird guy

Let’s make this even more challenging and make it one rod/reel with a limited amount of bait types. Bass tournament fishing is near but would prefer to see it change and challenge some of these pros a bit more.

Does the new UHD stuff from garmin compare anything close to the imaging you can get from humminbird?
@deltapromasterlauj48484 жыл бұрын
Shane Y from what my buddy shares who owns both Garmin’s UHD unit/transducer and a Hummingbird’s Helix mega+ SI/DI, the bird is slightly clearer......but not by much.....I would say it’s like comparing a Toyota Camry to a Honda Accord......The Camry being just slightly better in overall performance.

It’s a toss up between Garmin and Humminbird. Lowrance is not even close
@sarcazmo5 жыл бұрын
As someone that has used all 3 extensively, this is sheer ignorance. IMO Humminbird has the best side and down imaging with mega. Their 2d is the worst of the 3 although it has improved. Their lakemaster charts are also outstanding. Garmin has the best 2d sonar IMO, and their livescope is FANTASTIC. Their side and down leaves a little to be desired, but it's improving. Lowrance to me does everything well, and I prefer their user interface. Get whatever you feel comfortable with, but avoid those silly generalizations.

I agree , I have a HD’s 9 gen 3 and the side images is trash compared to the hummingbirds mega
@richierich86785 жыл бұрын
lorance is actually better than humminbird. garmin live scope is what saved garmin. if its not livescope than lorance beats it.
@deltapromasterlauj48485 жыл бұрын
Kou Chang the gen 3s are outdated, it’s not an apples to apples comparison.......mega imaging vs hds live 3-1 active imaging is more comparable......
@jaysonsetzer22875 жыл бұрын
Garmins UHD transducer should keep them close on the side and down imagining
@richierich86785 жыл бұрын
its all about what you can afford. garmin striker 7sv gives you side image, down image and 2d for 500$. lorance and hummingbird charge twice that for the same technology. thats why i choose garmin. you’re not losing quality LOOK AT THE DASH OF COMMERCIAL AIRLINERS. GARMIN for a reason.
@jwill98775 жыл бұрын
If side and down imaging are what you want no one beats hummingbird on detail. Yah Garmin and lorance might be clear but clearity is not equal to detail. The humming birds are clear and more detailed. Humminbirds can tell you what type of fish is on the side or down imaging. But Garmin and lorance dominate in other areas. It's all about what fits your style fishing. I personally rely heavily on side imaging to find fish in shallow bays that get no deeper than 5 feet. Nothing beats a birds side imaging to spot shallow walleyes that no down imaging or 2d sonar can show. I can scan alot of water and not waste any time knowing if I should fish the bay or not.

@thebassuniversity4 жыл бұрын
It's still a balance, these electronics will help you know you're on the fish, but it won't make them bite. Like targeting a bedfish that won't bite, it's easy to waste your fishing day trying to coax inactive fish into biting. It's all a balancing act to have a productive day.
