Hundreds of officers should be sacked for breaking the law and misconduct, says Met Police chief

The new Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley came into the job five weeks ago with a promise to restore faith in the UK's largest police force.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Today, after a damning report found systemic failings in how the Met handles misconduct allegations made by officers and their families - he admitted hundreds of his officers should have been sacked but weren't.
The findings heap more pressure on a force already in special measures.

If they want to be respected by the public, respect for them has to be earned. I’m gutted. As a father of one, a 24 year old daughter I cannot believe that such incompetence goes unpunished. I don’t subscribe to the fact that most police officers are useless/bent but do think they should be held accountable. I was following the Sarah Everard case and I was badly affected when I learned all the details of her murder. I imagined my daughter being in Sarah’s position and really couldn’t come to terms with it. Our police vetting standards need to be a lot higher and those officers that veer off the path of honesty need to be dealt with. I still think of Sarah as I do Claudia Lawrence and their families. 😪😪

1. "I honestly believe I command the most honourable large city police service in the world. I believe that the overwhelming majority of the 27,000 men and women in the Met are honest, they are decent, they are brave ... However, I do have a minority of officers who are corrupt, dishonest, unethical ... They commit crimes, they neutralise evidence in important cases and they betray police operations and techniques to criminals. These bad officers sap the morale of their honest colleagues and they do immense damage to public confidence ... they are very difficult to target and prosecute." This is what Sir Paul Condon, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner told us on December 4, 1997.[1]

I think the only way the UK police force can go forward is to first flatten that massively tall hierarchy structure, change the recruitment system to a strict entry over quantity system with heavy law knowledge content, redesign the training procedure so that pcs are assessed after training on a continous basis and finally seperate the complaints system totally from the police and make all routes totally clear of any hurdles for people wanting take their proven complaint to a court of law.

If the Commissioner knows about these cases, why are they not long gone? They wonder why recruiting in the Met is low. Ever thought that this is because they do not want to work in a corrupt service, where illegal acts are ignored. Even if 10% are sacked, it would still leave 90% that truly wanted to serve the community.

In America we deal with the same thing, the term internal affairs is an oxymoron, when police kill unless there is a huge outcry there is only a cursory investigation you cannot have a true accountability unless it comes from an outside objective source, when it comes to law enforcement accountability it is baked into the system that the police always get the benefit of the doubt and the system makes it difficult for a true investigation to be had and when there is abuses there let go for a long period of time in many cases and only when it makes national news is there any attempt at a accountability. In the George Floyd incident the main cop that killed, had multiple complaints against him before this happened of excessive force.

Unfortunately police have power complexes, they to believe the public should do whatever they say, legal or not. They will ask for your ID even though there is no crime, if you don’t some will then try the obstruction, interference route which of course is just intimidation. Stand your ground and always record them 👍
