Uploaded on Jun 1, 2011 The Hungarian Dances (German: Ungarische Tänze) by Johannes Brahms, are a set of 21 lively dance tunes based mostly on Hungarian themes, completed in 1869. Only numbers 11, 14 and 16 are entirely original compositions. In fact, number 5 was based on the csárdás by Kéler Béla titled "Bártfai emlék" which Brahms mistakenly thought was a traditional folksong. They are among Brahms' most popular works, and were certainly the most profitable for him. Each dance has been arranged for a wide variety of instruments and ensembles. Brahms originally wrote the version for piano four-hands and later arranged the first 10 dances for solo piano. The most famous Hungarian Dance is No. 5. Brahms wrote orchestral arrangements for No. 1, No. 3 and No. 10. Other composers, including Antonín Dvořák, orchestrated the other dances. These composers were Andreas Hallén for No. 2, Paul Juon for No. 4, Martin Schmeling for Nos. 5 to 7, Hans Gál for Nos. 8 and 9, Albert Parlow for No. 11 to 16. Dvořák orchestrated the last numbers. • Category • Music • License • Standard KZbin License • Music • "No. 6: Vivace" by Iván Fischer, Budapest Festival Orchestra, András Keller & Kálmán Balogh (iTunes)

1. Johannes Brahms had close contacts with the then Hungarian musical life. Several concerts were held in Pest, together with Eden Reményi, concert concerts and many Hungarian friends. He recorded Hungarian melodies, and he also processed them in several other works besides the well-known and popular Hungarian dance. The most played pieces of the 21 Hungarian Dances. Only numbers 11, 14 and 16 are entirely original compositions. 2. A legtöbbet játszott darabjai a 21 Magyar Táncok. Csak a 11., 14. és 16. számok teljesen eredetiek.

I am one of those who disliked classical music until I heard --and watched -Mr. Andre Rieu and his orchestra. I LOVE them all and I have watched his many performances listed on KZbin ,over and over, as I will never be able to afford to see him in person. I would give anything to be half the musician they are. As for all the "critical" comments of "disgrace", "humorless","disrespectful" and the list goes on, my parents have taught me many things but several were "if you can't say anything nice,don't say anything at all" and "unless you can do better, be quiet". Both of these statements apply to the negative comments displayed here.
@csubakka12046 жыл бұрын
Andre Rieu is a good musician, and an even better manager and business man. What he achieved is great. The music he is playing is popular "classical", many of the pieces are for dance, he does not go into any highly artistical, but thats OK. However this Hungarian Dance parody is distasteful.

Brahms 21 Hungarian dances are Hungarian folksongs, if you were Hungarian, would you know which ones are ...Kodály, Bartók and others are around 200,000 Hungarian Vokslieder recorded in the music book and gramophone.
@Sighery78 жыл бұрын
Wow, so many people crying in the comments, it's amazing. I don't know if you are Hungarian or what, but this song is not Hungarian, neither it's a song from that nation, it is INSPIRED, and I repeat, INSPIRED, by it, and the author wasn't Hungarian either, so stop claiming this as yours, this is from no one other than Johannes Brahms. Doesn't matter if the song was inspired by the Spanish flamenco or the Argentine tango, it's is just inspired by it, doesn't make it part of that nation's culture automatically just because a song is inspired by it. Besides, you can find like a million serious interpretations of the Hungarian Dances No. 5, Otto Waalkes tried to make it a little funnier by parodying it, and very few can make the audience both enjoy the song and cry laughing at the same time. Just take a look at the audience, some of them were almost crying of laughing, and they actually paid to go see the Hungarian Dances No. 5 being interpreted, so would you all stop being whiny babies when you didn't were there or paid anything to see it and you can find a million other interpretations of this song in KZbin?
@csubakka12048 жыл бұрын
+Sighery Wolfestein Each and every Hungarian inspired classical piece is Hungarian. Brahms, Monti, Liszt, Glazunov, Berlioz etc... basically all of them are based on folk tunes, folk songs/ 300.000 folk songs are registerd at the Hungarian Institute of folk music/ Glazunov's big Raymomnda "variation Hongroise" is based on "En vagyok az en vagyok a kunsagi fi...." folk song. Brahms in fact plagiarized a Hungarian composer, Keler Bela's piece, what was composed by Keler a few years before Brahm's V. Dance. Recently the original version is also being performed. On the other note, any Spanish inspired classical music is Spanish, accordingly.

Well said!! Life is so short... so, for all Hungarians and pussy complainers, enjoy and stop complaining... this is just a PERFORMANCE.
@Metransylvanian6 жыл бұрын
You just stop telling us when or when not ,why or why not we should complain or not.If you like this something -you are free to like it . WE ,Hungarians-we don't like this..Ok ? Is our right to like it or not .Stop calling us names .Rather show respect to hungarian people. Hungarian Dances was and is performed on big stages of the world.By big conductors like von Karajan and many others. Mr. Rieu is a big musician and show man.But here I'm afraid he went a little to far!
@Metransylvanian6 жыл бұрын
Hungarian Dances are hungarian. Why ?because is based on hungarian folk tunes . And our merit was and is to develop and preserve such a great folk music that inspired many big composers .In fact hungarian folk music is one of the richest ,the more colourful and amazing folk music in the world . Is a treasure .Now ,you might not know this - Brahms knew .
@jaqenhghar23796 жыл бұрын
@@Metransylvanian Not a single hungarian has worked on this piece. It cant be hungarian. Btw does this nonsense you are talking about also apply to other inventions? After that logic Ford would be a German company and every blues song would be afro american.
