Finally, an animated story that doesn’t automatically vilify cats! I grew up in Japan, and there are plenty of folktales there that show cats as benevolent creatures. There’s even a story with a cat wife. The newlywed woman named Miu, to save her husband and the village from starvation caused by a huge rat infestation, turns herself into a white cat. The cat, while normally quiet and gentle, turns into a ferocious huntress by day and tirelessly chases away the rats from the village. While everybody thanks and praises the cat, she would not accept any warm hearth or whatever scraps the villagers could manage to offer. Instead, she would silently turn away and go into the husband’s small run down house at the edge of the village and stay closely by his side. While the husband mourns for his missing bride, he finds solace in the cat’s companionship. At the end of the story, he lovingly pets the cat beside him and asks the cat if she might know where his wife might be. Upon which she simply quietly meows, “Miu.”

There is a historical reason why usually the youngest boy is the hero. During the medival times in Hungary( and in other middle Europian countries) the oldest boy inherited the fields, the second was sent to study( if they had enough money) and become a priest or a notary. The youngest one was in a bad situation, and he had to work in other people's field. @aurea.5 жыл бұрын
I've consulted a strange old woman living in the forest near my home and her diagnosis is clear: you are indeed doomed for being the eldest. However, she recommends you comb your hair at a river during a full moon, spin on a spinning wheel the night after at the same river, and play a sad song on a flute on the third night, again at the river. Only then will your problems go away. Either that, or the river's fairy will throw you across the country, could be one or the other. Good luck!

My grandmother would tell me this story, however it was slightly different! We're Indian, so maybe that's why? Anyway, in our version of the story there are 7 brothers and they each shoot an arrow. The youngest brother shoots an arrow into a forest tree, where it lands on a branch with a monkey. The prince marries the monkey. All the other brothers' wives mock the monkey wife. The King (father of all princes) decides to put all the wives to a test to see which one should rule his kingdom alongside his sons. The monkey bride wins all these tests. How, you ask? Well, she's actually a beautiful princess stuck in a monkey's skin. The young prince who married her is surprised when she wins all the tasks and decides to spy on her at night when she takes off her monkey skin to do the chores around the house. While she's busy, he burns the monkey skin, freeing her from whatever curse was put on her, I presume. Anyway, they live happily ever after ruling the kingdom. Pretty similar I'd say ❤

"A Cat is Fine Too"
@blondie47505 жыл бұрын
We have something similar in Lithuania, but instead of throwing them in the air they shot arrows and were told to retrieve them. Instead of a cat there is a swan, and the swan does all the work herself. Its a much longer story than this but its really fun to see something different

The part where the cat proposes to the prince is so cute and funny especially when she starts crying for him and he accepts due to it X3 I suppose the moral of the story is to not be always so sadden of the hand your dealt with since it can actually turn out better than you can imagine?

There are similarities between this tale & the Russian Fairytale the Frog Princess, except the Russian story doesn't end at the wedding. The prince has to do battle with the evil sorcerer who cursed the princess in order to keep his wife.

This reminds me of a French fairy tale I read called the white cat. An aging king tests his three sons on who is most worthy to be king. The first task is to find the smallest puppy in all the land. The sons go off and the youngest goes off in the forest and meets a white cat whom he befriends. The cat gives him the smallest dog so small it can fit in a hazel nut. Then the king asks for the finest muslin in all the land. The youngest goes into the woods meets the cat and cat give him the finest muslin. The final task is to find a bride. The naïve young prince goes to the forest and asks the cat for help. The cat says to find his bride he must cut off her head. The prince very hesistantly does so and she becomes a pretty princess. They move to his kingdom, get married and live happily ever after. The end.

@ProtonCannon5 жыл бұрын
Yes of course she begged hi, I mean she didn't want to be a cat forever. But the curse did not say that the one asking for her hand has to be in love with her, I mean how would the prince fall in love with a cat? He just to ask for her hand and seriously mean it. Yes the prince technically didn't have a choice but it worked out at the end.
@dreamercreations24995 жыл бұрын
@@ProtonCannon it said in the end that she could not turn back unless someone asked her hand in marriage. Think of how beauty and the beast works
@1..0w0..35 жыл бұрын
@@dreamercreations2499 At the start, the prince only said about how his DAD wants him to find a princess in the forest. It was only at the end, when the prince said that HE NEEDED a princess. So maybe only then the cat princess's curse was broken? Hence she couldn't turn back to princess until that scenario at the end.
