I wonder where this tale originally came from? I've heard it in tens of different languages/cultures saying it's their folklore. I'm amazed at how we share the same "root" all the while sprawling around and across the continents. That said, I wish modern surgery were as easy as cutting that fox's belly open when it's still alive without any hint of pain. 😂😂😂

This made me remember a story I read in elementary School where I guessed it was based off this but it was a human mother with I think 12 (or 13 can't remember it's been so long) kids and the wolf was a witch instead. And I think it was the oldest child, pretty sure it was a daughter, didn't get taken since she was more smarter and cautious and I think she herself saved her younger siblings from the witch (and I think the witch simply turned each child into a plate of food like one was soup, pudding, etc) or possibly got help from their mother. Man hearing this remind me of that book but now I can't remember the name, I know it kinda freaked me out as a kid.

The romanian version of this is much darker There are only 3 kids and after the wolf eats 2 of them he puts their heads in the window just to mess with the mother. The wolf thinks she doesn't know he's the culprit and accepts her invitation to dinner, but she puts his chair over a pit of fire and he falls in amd burns alive.

This was a particularly violent tale, though violence is a part of the world we live in. It's nice to see that Hungarian folk tales don't skimp on that aspect of life; they truly do prepare a person to face the world, and generally to see it in a positive light. I heartily approve.
