A full transcript of the lyrics was shown at Fanfest Las Vegas 2016. According to Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, the lyrics describe a Meracydian family torn apart by war against the Allagans and Sophia's brand of "justice" and "balance": after the father is slain in battle by the Allagans ("A torn uniform in hand, farewells unsaid"), the mother becomes abusive ("Forsaken, beaten, tried, on her knees") and, at Sophia's request, the daughter murders the mother to restore the imbalance created by her father's death ("The heart seeketh equilibrium / With balance will your worry part"), and then commits suicide, punishing herself for murder and leaving their home empty and forgotten ("And therewith shoulder thee / One last step only leaving / An empty hearth down by the sea").

@@ProfiteerProphet I thinks it's more trying to bring emotions back to balance rather than lives. The family was happy, then war happens and father dies. The mother's response is anger and violence, however since she can't take it out on the people who did it she takes it out on someone she can, her daughter. The daughter prays for something to stop what's happening to her, or something along those lines. How does Sophia tell her how to stop what's happening? Kill her mother. Now she is no longer being beaten and should be happy right? No, now she has the guilt of killing her own mother. How does Sophia tell her to fix that? Kill herself. Since everyone is dead and can no longer feel emotions, a morbid sort of balance has been achieved. Is it a positive change to achieve balance? No, but then again some eikons have shown that even though they have the power to do what they are asked of, they will not or can not do it in ways that benefits the one asking of them.

One interesting thing about sophia is her enrage in the extreme version, which is a cannon simulation of what she was like at the height of her power. For the enrage, she summons 8 light circles, or 8 dark circles, a scenario intentionally impossible to balance. So ultimately, to ensure her own survival, she is willing to abandon everything she claims to represent. She’s no Ramuh, that’s for certain.

That's the reason why. People keep saying that it was because the girl killed her mother, but it was because the girl was still suffering and killing the mother did not help the situation. Thus to resolve the issue, Sophia whispered a solution to eliminate all the pain, and that's why the girl decided to kill herself.

@Magikazam Arguably incorrect as each boss being "summoned" implies they existed in XIV's past. They just don't go into detail because the raids aren't about them because they serve as fluff fights. Omega itself certainly isn't lacking in new story and lore.

The lesson is that only in death is all equal. Meaning that aiming for COMPLETE justice/equilibrium will leave the world dead. You're likely not supposed to try to be Sophia, but learn from her mistake. Forgiveness, for instance, may have had less 'justice' - but if she would have forgiven her mother after death, she could have at least been at peace.

Way late to the talk. I think Sophia's ethos is less that "in death all is equal" and more that the principle she governs above all else is equilibrium and stability. the daughter's family has become unstable through the death of the father and abuse of the mother. Petitioning Sophia for guidance in this matter would not grant hope or reconciliation. Rather, it would be to restore stability the only way that's left according to Sophia's vision. Sophia would seek to end the source of their stasis (which was grief) in the most direct way possible. Guiding the daughter to kill her mother ends the mother's grief(equilibrium). The daughter cries out again for guidance over her grief, and Sophia again offers the solution, and thus, the daughter does it to herself (equilibrium). All acting influences of family strife are neutralized, and stability is achieved in that matter. The system of Sophia's divine law maintains its unchanged nature. This is the Balance of Sophia in this specific matter and is the exact reason that this religion and Goddess needed to be stopped before she could be released back into the world.

Way I see it, it's the mother's death due to her crimes against her daughter, then the daughter's death due to taking her mother's life or something. Really dark, but it's a good track >_>;

I can't figure what Sophia's elements are. Her main attacks seem to be lightning based, but she also uses fire for her meteors and wind for her charge. With Sephiroth using Wind and Earth and Zarvan using Fire and Ice, I'd expected Sophia to use the remaining two of the wheel of the elements, Lightning and Water.

She is original Triad in FF 6. She uses Ultima, Flare (non-elemental), lightning attacks and flash rain (ice and water). The idea that these original gods in FF 6 and XIV are specific class is incorrect. They are the originator of magic. When they were defeated, magic seized to exist. As such any spell that were ever learned or absorbed from Espers originated from these Triads or their powers sourced from them.

Although not a 1 for 1 reference, sophia is based on a God from real life (much like most of the primals) she is based of the goddess Sophia from gnosticisim, which is a lost branch of Christianity. (There is a long story behind the theological origins of gnosticism. Just think Christianity of God is explicitly evil) sophia is said to be the goddess who gave birth to a malformed God named yaldabaoth, only to abandon him in a void before he became aware. Sophia in gnosticism isn't a Goddess of balance or justice, she's a goddess of maternity and fertility. But in later interpretations she is gods wife, but thats due to later denominations muddling the myth.
