This video will show you how to make candle or lamp at home using kitchen materials such as oil and rock salt. You can save money if you will use used cooking oil.
Kahit mantika na ginamit sa pagprito ng lumpia o isda. Sa panahon ng bagyo na walang supply ng kuryente, isa itong paraan para magkaroon tayo ng lampara.

in the war of 1990, we used oil, but instead of salt, we poured ordinary water, and we put a shoelace through the crust of bread as a fuse and put it on the oil to float, that's what we used instead of candles

Clever, or a slice of a cork from a wine bottle with a hole in it would do it. With a floating device and the twig underneath, you can pour a little water in the bottom, then oil on that. This cools down the oil so the glass wont crack. Also, its safe. When the oil runs out, the cork sinks and the twig reaches the water and puts out it self.

You don't need salt at all. Where I come from, years ago, we were losing power every other day, sometimes for days, so mom used to make candles using cotton and oil. It's just a piece of cotton soaked wet twist between two fingers and light it up. It will burn for hours. And we also had a lot of mosquitoes, so before turning the light on, my mom would smudge the light bulb with oil and then turn the light on. All the mosquitoes would stick to the bulb. In the morning, mom would just wipe the bulb off. Worked like a charm

I've just tried it and it works!! 😊🌟🌟🌟😍💕🙏Thank you so much!! I didn't use salt, I just coiled a wire to sit at the bottom of a glass jar and used a cotton rope around the wire soaked in sunflower oil. At first, the flame made its way down slowly and I was thinking that it would die once it touches the oil inside the jar but no! The flame is now steady and it is a big flame sitting on top of the oil. (I tried it before with margarine but the flame just died as soon as it touched the margarine!!). I'm overjoyed that I have finally got it right!! I have put it inside my iron Woodburner and ill wait to see how long it lasts!! Thank you loads!! 🙏💕🌟☃️❄️🌨️ (as gas prices are up, I appreciate having a constant burning flame around the house!!)

Better still find a small round metal holder - a wick holder from a tealight works - and punch a TINY hole in it, just bit enough for the wick to come through. Then float that on the surface and it holds the wick in place. You can also use plastic, I've seen that done as well, and you can make very decorative ones with shells/flowers etc in the water [add food colouring if you want to] before putting the oil on top. They were very fashionable to buy/use about 7-10 years ago.

use a wooden barbecue stick, it's longer and safer compared to binding the sticks with scotch. you can also roll all together a paper shit and a handkerchief on the outside layer: the paper will strengthen the wick and the handkerchief will absorb the oil. know that used oil will smell a lot and your home will have a (fries or else) scent. but if it's an emergency just do as you can.

We have been using oil and cotton wick lamps🪔 in the Hindu & Buddhist Temples and also our homes for centuries in India and the neighbouring countries ! 😀. The wooden stick in the wick is also an option if the lamp is so designed with a small hole to fit it in . Butter is preferred to oil as it doesn't create black soot in the ceiling or wall . The salt is however a new concept .

@tiredoftheliesalready
@tiredoftheliesalready Жыл бұрын
TL;DR Glass shatters due to thermal shock. Heat cannot rightly be blamed, as the same can happen with cooling. Well, I'll comment, since this is fundamentally an incorrect statement. Glass doesn't break/shatter/explode because of heat (high or otherwise). If it did, then glasiers would have been out of work about the time they figured out glass could be worked, and decided they had jobs. Glass actually breaks/shatters/explodes because of thermal shock, caused by a significant shift in temperature before the structure can acclimate properly. This actually happens in the reverse, too...which further helps point to the "cause" not being heat. Moreover, the thickness of glass does not prevent thermal shock; if anything, it may only serve to help slightly offset/delay the onset of thermal shock. Even the thickest tempered glass is subject to thermal shock, and therefore, breakage.

Salt in candle wax raises the melting point so the candle lasts longer. This could possibly be true with oil? I don’t know for sure, but as this is wick fed it might only be for a stable surface to sink wick. Some people use sand for same reason.

@@lisabeyer4712 , frankly don't know. In this age where the technology already exists to solve basic lighting and heating very cheaply in an emergency, I don't quite understand why anyone would still want to use very old tech like this. How is it in any way better? Scented tealight candles is the answer to your question. Salt should go into cooking food. Glass jars should be used for drinks and storing food. In the space it takes to make and store a dozen of these salt and oil lamps in glass jars, I could easily place 10 to 15 packs of 100's tealights, scented, unscented, whatever. Cheaper, 0 effort, other than going shopping to buy it and bringing it home.

depends on the size of the container and how much oil. If you use 1/2 cup of oil OVER AND ABOVE the amount used to saturate your sand or salt, it burns for hours. Don't add oil as/or after you're burning or you will be constantly battling with the wick staying lit. Just make a new oil lamp.

so if the salt is just to keep the wick vertical, you could use any granular solid that doesn't disolve in the liquid fuel.... Coarse sand, fine pebbles...

Look at the fumes coming off, the smell of that must be reeking.

You are burning fuel, of course fumes come off. It isn't an electric light. You think candles don't produce off gasses when they burn?

@@Elsureel fumes with an opaque or translucent colour indicate incomplete combustion. especially with vegetable oil, which already smells, will probably smell much more when it doesn't fully decompose.

What's the rock salt for? If you're using it to hold the wic up just use a wic and wire twisted together to make it stiff enough to stand. Also you do realize Amazon sells burners made to fit canning jars right?

Wieso Salz?
