Here's the literal translation by a Mongolian bar by bar. A long, long time ago At the north of the golden earth, Near the edge of the world In the virgin natural wild countryside, By the bottomless blue lake, At the dawning of the warm seasons, From far away, the migrating birds Came flying in with the sounds of glee. At the sight of the growing younglings, Elder (grandfather) lake became joyous in its waves, Everyday, every being was delighted, Every night, every one was shouting in rejoice Long time has past, Middle of the summer came, What a joyful time this is! What a delightful wave this is! Oh my, oh my! One lonely swan with sadness, Seeking its other in its stride, Looked all around and about, Suddently found the one, In the love that was found in their later lives, Dove head first and enjoyed the love they had (have), So deeply in love, not even the universe mattered, (forgot the universe in their joyous love) So many more days had passed during their love, As she let known of her newly conceiving, She vowed to be together forever, As they married in the lake they grew together in, Forever they'll rejoice as they promised. The seven eggs hatched, Brought an unbelievable joy. Life became so good. It was full of joy and happiness. Oh my, oh my! Bright and lively day had reached its end, Hid all that it had to show, Bright white moon had dimmed, Hid behind the clouds of the night. Pupils almost froze, As it got so cold, As so the water frozen shut, As the whole world became harsh, As they began their migration, They counted their cygnets, Ones who weren't ready for flight Gave all they could Many of her offlings, She wanted to leave living on this earth, As she held them under her wings, She couldn't hold on to her own life Oh my, oh my! As the light in her eyes dimmed, Tears never stopped pouring, As the warm life parted her, The sorrow never decreased. As the light in her eyes dimmed, Tears never stopped pouring, As the warm life parted her, The sorrow never decreased. -- Because of the love for her cygnets with half grown wings, She passed away with her tears, the motherly being, Between the living and the passing moments, Still lullabied during the ever lasting night. --- And, of course, this is a legend of the birth of the Mongolian people in the world descended from the 7 surviving cygnets (baby swans) hence the cold world (ice age etc maybe) and what our ancestors had went through so that WE have a life to live and experience this world in all its glory. That's, in my opinion, the best interpretation of this tale/lengend that our proud Mongolian band THE HU sings about!

"The Legend Of Mother Swan" [English translation:] Once upon a time There was a bottomless blue lake At the end of the world with An uninhabited beautiful land When the spring time came The migrant birds returned to the lake flying and singing From far far away place The old father lake was waving joyfully When he saw his offspring, all grown up He rejoiced all day long He sang all night long The time flied swiftly Here came the middle of summer What beautiful happiness How joyful his waves There was a female swan hadn't found her lover She searched for him endlessly and found him lastly They were delighted in their late found love They loved each other as nothing else matters A happy news of expecting came Promised each other to be together forever Married in their father lake, love and happiness followed Seven offspring were born to them How beautiful was life How tasty was happiness The sun goes down, here came the chill The moon goes dark and hides behind the clouds Fierce cold came and the water body chilled Frozen the streams and the whole earth It was time to travel back to warm land, but her cygnets were too young They tried so hard to fly with half grown feathers She took her young ones under her wings to save them from coldness Sacrificed her life and left this world As the fire of her eyes quenced her tears stayed pouring As the last breath left her body her heartache was still there Died in her tears for half-grown feathers The Mother Swan Departed in lullabying between sleeping and awake The Mother Swan - azlyrics dot com

They did a dope video about it. The snow leopard is a sacred animal from Mongolia, which was found pretty much all across the Eurasian steppe, and the Gereg is a kind of universal passport for the Mongolian people to travel anywhere within the Great Khan's lands. If those two things don't make it even more badass, I don't know what to tell you.

Every track on the Gereg is absolute gold. I can't think of a Western/Anglophone band that I've liked as much as The Hu in the past decade. Maybe Kongos comes close, and Pearl Jam has taken a few impressive kicks at their particular can lately. Still... Almost no other music can match the heart and soul of The Hu. I'm completely hooked. So ASMR. Most people think it's kind of weird (and it is) because of all the videos of people whispering seductively while molesting household objects, but the point of the ASMR is what it triggers in your brain. The best way I can describe it is it's like the relief you feel when you scratch an itch, but that itch is on the inside of your skull. This guys voice does it for me

Why does it Matter I feel it is more like a marriage to have diplomatic peace between families, the rape is overrated and mongols aren’t the only one romans and others before did it too, and also the yasa law made by Genghis Khan said that soldier should not harm the families and children’s of the war, but I see your opinion and you can think believe what they said about the mongols, it is up to you to change your mind and not me.

I did come off too sharp in my first comment. I have mainly European ancestry of whom the same atrocities have taken place. And just so everyone knows I have taken the time to rethink my words and do a little self education on the subject. The Hu has the ability to speak across language and country. I’m just sad I wasn’t able to make it to their concert when they were touring the US. While we’re on the subject of history telling vs what happened...how accurate was the Netflix show Marco Polo regarding Kublai Khan rule? Because I’ve watched that twice now.
