This is still one of my all-time-favorite performances on Idol. You can tell Hunter is just beating himself up so hard for forgetting the lyrics, but his performance was so beautiful & heartfelt, it truly didn't matter. His falsetto was sublime! The great Shirley MacLaine said in an interview once that early in her career she had to go onstage as an understudy and made tons of mistakes. The crowd LOVED her and she learned early that people really do relate to and connect with performers unafraid to make a mistake.
