I saw a Casablanca Palisades in a hotel room which was on a dimmer too, and the chain only worked on low. And the blades are loose. However with help from maintenance, I managed to fix both of those issues; wiring the black wire directly to gray wire, and tightening the blades. The pull chain was replaced at some point and wired wrong; 5uf capacitor wire was wired to “L” slot of chain switch. Maybe the chain on that fan was wired wrong too. It could be that it’s an L-1, L-2-3, L-3 chain switch and main wire connects to “2” and when on working speed, it’s powering more than one wire taps, probably medium and low winding taps. That’s about how fast Original would spin when both medium and low speed winding taps are powered.

Ah yes, one of my favorite Hunter fans, and I actually LOVE 5-blade Hunter Originals, it seems that it needs oil.

Works great.

My guess is people likely loved playing with the reverse switch while the fan was running. While it looks cool to watch the motor torque the other way very quickly it will also kill your fan's capacitor very quickly as well. Always use the reverse switch while the fan is NOT in operation. This reason alone is why I prefer the reverse switch on top of the motor housings rather than on the switch housings.

Though on some fans, it is impossible to reverse the fan while the fan is off, when the fan is remote controlled.

Also it seems like the old chain broke, was replaced with a wrong chain, and wired wrong. It looks like it’s powering more than one winding taps. If capacitor just went bad and it went this slow on high, medium and low would work too.

I had a 1995 one, it had a bad capacitor. It went medium on the first two speeds and high on the third one. It made a horrible noise because it was never oiled. I was very upset when I found out it was required to be oiled and felt like an idiot. The other one was a H52 Original and the last one was in Chestnut Brown from the same year. The white one was in my parents room.

That's a Hunter swivel canopy. They used those back in the late 90s and early 2000s instead of the regular Original canopy. It's still the same double-claw hook hanger underneath that canopy, though. Outdoor originals still use swivel canopies.

It wouldn't necessary fall if it used ball and socket mount, I've seen 11 Hunter Original in The Galley Restaurant hanging on ball and socket mount, still better safe than sorry.

Hunter says it's a wobble free design, but it isnt...if only everybody knew these had to be oiled as well, or they wouldn't have problems losing speeds.

Supposed Fact: Hunter Originals will fall if used with a ball and socket mount. My Perspective: I have 2 Hunter Original fans hanging on ball and socket for over 2 years now. They haven't moved a millimeter. Ball and socket is rated up to 70 lbs., these fans only weigh 40-45 lbs. Hang them how you like, just make sure your box is fan rated if you do go ball and socket.

Update: The two Hunter Originals are still hanging and haven't moved at all. They still use the ball and socket adapters I installed them with. It's been over 4 years since I hung them. If you let your fan become a wobbly bastard yes it will most likely break the adapters eventually.

Actually, UAE Hunter Original came with ball and socket. In the other hand, some Original did fall from ball and socket, so it really depends on ball and socket mount.

Oh dear god that runs terribly. Poor fan. It used to be good quality but not anymore. Originals are really not good for use in businesses because they're not maintenance free. People neglect and abuse them all the time. What a shame.
