As someone who watched the 2011 version first and is now watching this one and loving it so far, this part was such a disappointment. I was looking forward to this but sadly it was too rushed. I even came to KZbin just to make sure the episode on the website was not cut by mistake lol

A lot of characters do. They're cleaner and more on model in the 2011 version, but that doesn't equate to better.

i think the flashes to key points in the fight (which is pretty brutal) as Hisoka is walking out of the arena was kinda badass and creative.

Despite losing to Hisoka, Kastro emits a scary aura in 1999 animation. New animation made Kastro look like a joke lol.

That is kind of the point though, Kastro is a joke comparatively. The 2011 version fleshes it out more for sure, but the entire point of this fight is giving a flashy representation of why someone shouldn't focus their potential into a category that doesn't border there own natural ability.

1999 version try to made the character more beautiful while 2011 just made it as similar as manga. but i did dissapointed of 'piske's training scene' animations. they made it as simple and short as they can

i didnt really think of it as childish, maybe the drawing style and it was too colorful. But it was good and chimera arc just amazing in my opinion, i prefer 1999 version from the directing, drawing and musics.

Of course way back 1999 this animation is so good and it has more darker tone than 2011which is good but 2011 obviously are much better, better quality better soundtrack better sound effect better choreography, ye they cut the last exam but it doesn't matter. Watch whatever version you prefer since it's the same story so stop hating both version they're both good it's just we all have preferred version.

1999 is a high quality anime with amazing direction (Kenshin OVAs much) Why do you take it so personally. IMO 2011 has no style. It turns a manga with potential into a generic shonen where as 1999 elevated it.

Animation, voice acting, staying true to manga(1999 had this scene cut off, one filler episode during the hunter exam and Kurapika vs Hisoka), 2011 is better at everything. People simply like the old version more because they either grew up watching it, or they like the dark and melancholic vibe that it gives.
