I love when they pull off these absurd ideas so well. I loved Mike Farrell on as a guest star too. I think the back story with Amelia was important to the story, but like most people got so bored with it.

I really love the moment between Dean and Cas when Dean stops what he is doing to just talk to Cas, initiating a vulnerable moment and listening. And Cas responding to that by being so open about the guilt he carries and how deeply it affects him. It's such a short moment in the episode, very quickly moved on from, but to me it felt really big.

Love Cas in this episode and i always love a goofy comedic episode. Him interrogating the cat is the beat.

Interesting thoughts about the humour of this episode! I personally don't think that it takes anything away from humour for context to be needed, it might just limit who the humour appeals to. Things don't need a broad appeal to be genuinely good - I love strong liquorice, but I know that isn't for everyone. I think what works well in this episode is that the bonkers cartoon problems seem so at odds with this universe, but then they bring in an explanation that not only make it more or less fit, but also has a lot of tragedy to contrast the light tone. Humour-wise, what I enjoyed most was Dean adapting to fighting with cartoon rules, and how Dean and Cas play off against each other. Dean is all references and sarcasm, Cas is unusually very literal and earnest. I suppose Cas highlights the silliness of how Dean expresses himself at times, while being very endearing in his confusion. Maybe I enjoy that so much because I don't get half of Dean's references, and have to figure out what he is saying based on context clues. I also really love moments like Cas' concluding that "bugs bunny" is a "insect-rabbit hybrid", it makes complete sense, especially given the creatures they sometimes fight, but sounds ridiculous to us who take for granted that you know who Bugs Bunny is.

I agree that the goofy strange episodes are the best parts of the show. Also the meta 4th wall breaking episodes are the best.

This is a funny episode. Not sure about my favourite gag... 🤔 maybe the cat. I love having Cas back and I loved having him trying to be a hunter this episode.

Most comedy relies on some prior knowledge. The more prior knowledgd you have, most often the funnier you might find it. Comedy episodes in long running series usually partially rely on knowledge of characters and series norms. A few comedy episodes or odd episodes per season are a norm for Supernatural and I think knowing that adds to the fun of the episodes. People with no knowledge of the show, would probably have mixed emotions about it, especially with these flashbacks that are not great even with prior knowledge. If they like slap stick, maybe they would find parts funny, but they would probably be very confused overall.

The Amelia part was a bore, Cass' heavenly distress likewise. The case was very good, though I could totally do with out the cat, interrogated or otherwise.

The cartoon "fun" went straight past me tbh but that doesn't surprise me. Scrubs had a more or less similar episode in the sense that they used the sesame street in one of their episodes. Instead of funny I found it super annoying and couldn't wait for it to be over. In the case of supernatural, Cass saved the episode for me because he unlike the rest was hilarious to me. The things he does are dumb of course but it makes me giggle that he can even say all that stuff with a completely,straight and serious face and his deep (one could argue edgy) voice just makes it even better.

Comedy is always subjective. As someone who can't deal with cartoons at all, of course this episode also isn't funny for me but plain stupid. But I get what they were going for and considering I dislike it for the same reasons I dislike cartoons, yeah, I guess they were successful lol

Really I liked it and found it funny
