Snakes are not be killed as soon as you see them in Serbia,we have a story of our ancestors sometimes taking a shape of a snake,and staying around the house from which the person who died came from,to keep it safe and guard it from bad spirits.

@@emilianozapata2530 That's right, they are called "čuvarkuće". The house guard snake (čuvarkuća) appears as a mythical creature that usually lives in the foundations of the house or in the hearth and it is usually white. It is believed that the snake guarding the house represents either the progenitor of the family, i.e. the first ancestor who formed that family, or in some regions it is the ancestor who was the most meritorious and stood out for something. Killing that snake was considered to bring bad luck and a sin.

Leskovac is the capital of traditional Serbian barbecue... Widely known for its secret mixture of meat and spices for pleskavice and ćevapčići. I wish you a good time! For music: there are two schools of traditional Serbian trumpet music, western Serbian (Zlatibor etc.) and southern Serbian (where gypsy orchestras predominate (masters like legends of trumpet music - Bakija Bajić, Fejat Sejdić and others))

There is no competition in a sense of competition with others for biggest pljeskavica, just one group of people (from some restaurant) make biggest pljeskavica ( that is bigger than last year) for Guinness world record and that's it...after they make and done with it the audience eat that pljeskavica and it's over....

Leskovačka mućkalica is a dish made from leftover meat from the grill: burgers, kebabs, smoked pork neck, smoked pork back, fresh pork, a little smoked bacon... And all this in a good sauce made of onions, tomatoes, and finely chopped red pepper - baked on the grill or on the oven and then pilled , plus a little of oil (not much), salt, pepper, garlic, carrots, sweet and hot paprika and little bit of parceley.
@fungitorix

There is no rule as to how much meat should be added. You add whatever grilled meat you have and as much as you think is necessary. That's why Leskovačka mućkalica always has a slightly different character. It is also important to add a little sugar to the tomato paste. Potatoes are not necessary, but can be added. Here is one of the recipes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2HOiat8dsiqiqc

She told me that some licence only in Belgrade for certification to handle a snake. After I think it's like bears few years ago maybe 20, some tsigans generally come with bear at this time on "vasar"... Today you didn't see this anymore. For snakes it's something new so some of them try to promote this (the girl that have one told me) to have more people with snakes, associations... Like other animals, but people generally at 99.9% don't like snakes

"Urnebes salata" is a traditional Serbian salad that is typically served as side dish, usually with barbecued meat. It is made with a combination of cheese or clotted cream, oil, garlic, chili pepper or any type of mlevena and tucana paprika. The salad is named after the Serbian word for “chaos”, which refers to spiciness.
@Sarmozord
@Sarmozord Жыл бұрын
That is not really correct what you said. Urnebes is more of a condiment then an actual salad and urnebes does not mean chaos (chaos on Serbian and English don't really mean same), urnebes is more like some kind of disorder or mess and disorder should be perfect meaning for it because of the ingredients that are used.
@amarillorose7810
@amarillorose7810 Жыл бұрын
@@Sarmozord I didn't say anything wrong, this is a type of salad that is usually served as an appetizer or with grilled meat. The meaning of the word "urnebes" is complicated because it does not have only one meaning, "hilarity" is probably the most accurate meaning but it can also be "pandemonium, hoopla, rumpus, ect.". Disorder is "poremećaj, nered" and mess is "nered, zbrka".

I must say, as someone who grew up in Serbia, although Serbia is a small country, there is a lot of difference in culture across the country, especially between north and south. In Vojvodina (and Belgrade) there is a lot of western influence. Novi Sad looks much more like Vienna. In Vojvodina (Novi Sad, Subotica, Zrenjanin etc) people have their own cousine (Paprikaš, gulaš, valjusci/nasuvo, gomboce, štrudle) they preferer tamburitza, rather than trumpet, also there is a Exit festival (huge music festival in this area) in Novi Sad, and people do like the western music, even the fashion is different, and difference between an average person minds from north and south could be compared with a differences between New York and Texas. Belgrade is a mix of all. Belgrade is the city which is known for the best night life in ex Yu, because, you can find there clubs and bars with all kind of music (Jazz bars, bars with rock and punk music, clubs and festivals with house and trap music, and of course clubs and kafana's with folk music). I'm from Belgrade, and for me, there is some kind of a cultural shock when I go down there. In the western Serbia (Bajina Basta, Uzice..) live Dinaric people, they are very tall, loudly, and their cousine include pršuta, kajmak, domestic cheese, lamb meat, komplet lepinja, pecenje... In the east live people who tend to be very superstitious, they have magical rituals, and there is a influence from the Romanian food and habits. In the south Serbia there is a influence of Bugarian, North Macedonian and Roma culture, and I like their cousine, 'cause it's very spicey and they made the best Ajvar in Serbia. Also, there is a language barrier between the north and south, so we can barely understand each other. I don't want anyone to be offended, this is just my opinion and every part of Serbia have some good and some bad sides. And last but not least, me and many Serbians are grateful for your promotion of our country. Thank you, JLW, u are the best.

Guys I highly recommend you to eat any kind of hunted wild animal products here. I am a hunter myself (no license btw) and I personally really prefer to eat dishes made out of animals like wild boar, deer, roe deer, rabbit, pheasent... many others... especially the stew, gulas (goulash) or as the roasted meat, out of freshly hunted and baked wild species. You also HAVE TO TRY dried meat (šunka, kobasica, kulen..) made out of wild pigs (mangulica) especially, and you can't believe how well it goes with kajmak. You can look for them in some certain restaurants, but just go find for some hunting clubs that sell these dishes. There are many hunting clubs here, and it's quite popular to find them anywhere, basically you have them in any bigger or smaller city or town, just not really all of them publicly sell the meat they hunt. No need to thank me, enjoy Serbia!

That insanity about snakes is totally new in Serbia imported from God knows where . In fact it is not about LOVE for the snakes ,it's about money . Serbian mentality is to better make 1000 dinars doing NOTHING then work hard for 8000 dinars . Serbia is now one of the biggest construction sites in Europe specially Belgrade waterfront but average age of workers there is 45 years old and very few young Serbians work there . They have to hire workers from other countries. Right now in Serbia there is going on some crazy culture that is SHAME to work hard for living . Idols for young Serbians are criminals , starlets, folk singers in this exact order . Any how ,enjoy your time in Serbia. Cheers from Ontario !!!🍺🍺🍺

You make big mistakes, call it beginner mistake 🙂you eat at at those open barracks on grill fest. You eat gurmanska pljeskavica and they give you prepared one (you dont know how much time it spent on grill waiting for you to come and dust fall during that time 😉 ) Fast food Ema, Bibac and Asterix you need to wait for few minutes for pljeskavica or any thing to be prepared on grill. If you want good Leskovacka muckalica you should went to some local kafana or ethno restaurant. I am so sorry you didnt find competition for bigest pljeskavica in the world but you were about some 15-20m from it ( or side from main street, Sop Djokiceva Kuca and it was during the day but you were not far from it) at 5:40 behind you (or behind blue parasol-sunshade-sun umbrella) is tin sheet metal which grill maestros from ethno restaurant "Koliba" use to flip the biggest pljeskavica on the grill. If you eat pljeskavica or cevapi the only thing you need too add it is a lot of fine chopped onion and nothing more (that is traditional way, the modern way is with a lot of toppings but you lost flavor of pljeskavica or cevapi) Better luck next time

Also, this is FOLKS' FESTIVAL thus the folk music! If you visit the ginormous "EXIT FESTIVAL" in Novi Sad you'll see 90% foreign bands! Nightclubs throughout Serbia play 50/50 western/domestic music!

Snakes are not part of serbian culture in any way. In fact, we hate them, as every normal person. 😂 Those random guys hanging around with snakes on shoulders were just trying to earn some money catching people for making photos with snakes... I wouldn't even for free. 😂

It is not a traditional Leskovačka mućkalica. We mostly use fresh meat in Mućkalica. They found a way to use up old burgers and sausages. it's a shame that they sell it as a traditional Leskovačka mućkalica at the festival without giving people an authentic taste and culinary experience. A real Mućkalica is much better than that.

I am from Leskvoac and I havent been there for the last 7 years and the question is why...rostiljijada 5 years ago was the festival visited by at least 500.000 people in 6 days but now that number is a bit smaller and because of the "city square" and the huge stage there that separates the crowd and I guess,quiet big number of visitors want just to listen to the music,not to eat anything and that is the biggest problem.Earlier that stage was in the crowd at the biggest crossroad and whether you like it or not you need to go through the crowd and to buy something but now,rostiljijada is not grill festival,rostiljijada is in 70% just music for someone.

Trumpet is Serbian national instrument. Dating from all days when they will call young man to take up the arms and defend country from invading armies. Trumpet could be heard far away and people would know what to do.
