Hey man, I've been picking this for years. Just wanted to let you know the leaves are delicious. They are almost better than the garlic itself. They are tender and sweet. You can also freeze the bulbs. You end up with twice as much goodness eating the leaves. Please try it everyone!

Why don't you cultivate a few more spots of it? Take a few plants from your big area and transplant them to another location where it's likely to grow and then leave it for several years to take hold.

Now I want wild garlic so I can try and reinvent the soup. I would kill for some wild garlic. Guess I’ll have to grow my own. Unless..... you’d like to send me some???? 😆

Hello. I grew up in southwestern Pa, I returned back to my hometown here in Pennsylvania after I left the Air Force. We call them ramps here. Dice the bulbs, stalks, and the leaves finely. Dice, or finely slice some red potatoes. Place the potatoes in a skillet with some butter and the diced ramps. Season with a little Lawreys Season Salt. Fry the potatoes until golden brown and the ramps have slightly wilted. Absolutely awesome for breakfast as a side to your omelet and sausage. Ramps are delicious !!

Here in Minnesota we call it wild onion. It's part of the Ramp family. Here, it typically comes up in the early spring and is easy to spot as it is the greatest thing growing, and grows in low areas. The bulbs get larger the longer it grows before they set seed. I have had success with transplanting to new areas.

Yeah. Was gonna say we call those ramps. SE Ohio.

Ramps are the same as the wild onion there showing wild onions in Europe are a different species called ransoms and Siberian onion look similar. But there is a lot of diffent onion,leek, garlic or allium in general so it’s hard to grow. If you live in North America and your wild onion are flat then you have ramps in Europe you have damsons but some other onions might look similar to usually other wild onions and garlic look like tiny chives or leeks which also they might be.
@NicolettaIvetadeVries4 жыл бұрын
You also can dry the leaves , than grind it finely like flour and mix it with salt. So you have a very delicious wild-garlic salt ( We in Germany call it Bärlauch , it will be translated bear-leek ) You also can cultify this plant in your own garden and you will see it will multiply its own very fast !

You dont need to keep wild garlic a secret in the UK. It grows in such an abundance that a small woodland can contain more than could feed a small army several times over. It is technically illegal to uproot any wild plant though. But people often use their own judgement and discression when it comes to the easier to ignore laws. Leaves are very good though and can be easily harvested

"Nowhere to be found in Quebec." I've been living all my life in Quebec and I've never missed a single year without getting some wild garlic for my personnal use. People only have to be careful and to leave a good portion of every patch they find, exactly like you are telling your viewers in this video. Selling it commercially and getting caught afterward doesn't really make this very profitable in the end.

Wild garlic in my garden in UK looks so different!! more like the leaves of a crocus and the actual garlic root is a small white bulb!!
@steammachine30615 жыл бұрын
That sounds like you have tri cornered leek rather than wild garlic. Same family of plant (alium) and just as edible. But tri cornered leek is an invasive plant rather than a native one. It often grows in the same types of location youll find wild garlic as well though. Called tri cornered as the flowering stem has 3 sides to it
@johannalange8025 жыл бұрын
I think there are a few different plants called wild garlic. The problem here is he is thinking of garlic bulbs and destroys the plant. Just use the greens and let the bulb inside, it will grow like weeds.
@steammachine30615 жыл бұрын
@@johannalange802 theres another common allium in the uk called crow garlic which the root does resemble a miniature garlic bulb. It's technically against the law to uproot any wild plant within the UK. But im not against it personally as long as common sense prevails. With the standard ramsons for example they literally carpet the woodland floor and could stand up to even heavy seasonal uprooting. Same for tri cornered leek as they are non native invasive and could benefit from being kept at manageable levels. The bulb of those resembles that of a small onion and could probably be pickled in a similar way for long term storage
@johannalange8025 жыл бұрын
@@steammachine3061 Same rules here in D. Mostly you'll find huge woodlands carpeted with the leek variety in early spring. First rule is to only forrage and not to harvest. That is part reason why mostly the greens are used. Can't wait :)
