Just went out on my first cruise on a motorcycle today. This bike's exact twin and just as minty. It's a '98 with 33,000 miles. My buddy wants $4500. Wrung the bitch out a few times. Within 20 minutes I felt like I had been riding the thing my whole life. I thought we could have only been out for 45 minutes or so, but when I got back over 4 hours had gone by. It gets in your soul man. Good damn time.

That's a fine Fat Boy and I love the 1340 Evolution Engine. I had a 1997 Low Rider and I miss that bike to this day. That bike just screamed quality from front to back. This Fat Boy has that same quality look and looks like someone kept it in their living room! Amazing bike!

Just bought a 98 with 8k miles on it, looks absolutely brand new and rides like it. Gorgeous bike and the sound is second to none. Quintessential harley. People say the 98 engine is the best one they made so good on you as well.

@@ourtime-downhere6931 This 98 FLSTF was like new also it didn't have a chip ni the paint even. I got a deal on it too the guy had to move his business because of this virus hoax had everything shut down. I paid $3.100.00 for it. I put new tires and wheel bearing in it and did a full service to include fork oil. It is factory original except for the Vance & Hines exhaust and a Mustang seat.

I found a black 97 fat boy with 21,000 miles in great to mint condition for a good price but I own a had 2014 fortyeight and where Im from harleys are worth double( I’m not rich) so I would be selling my forty eight and earning money for my pocket if sell it to buy the fatboy 97 carburetor motor with that sound that it’s unbeatable and I grew up around a 94 fatboy actually we still have it not mine though. Should I sell it for the fatboy?

a few minor changes, namely, if I recall correctly, oil pump and starter. Been a few decades now as to the reason... but once the 96's came out, the others DROPPED in value because of the changes.

Fatboys were only made in 80 cubic inches. That's 1340 cc. You can lower the forks and rear shocks to make it your size

@@HuntingHarleys You ride when you want. Distance riding is for people that have the time, $, and their health, and the desire to sit that long. I'm 65, and still have my 72 stock flh. I have a friend who is an avid rider and is constantly presuring me . Why don't, you go to Stugis or Daytona or Laconia? My answer is ,why don't you STFU, and quit making a job out of it. I have prostate cancer and other issues, but I still won't give up the bike. You ride how far you want. Its not a pissing contest . Never understood guys who worry how far you ride. Who cares????

It's too bad the owner bought the soft bags instead of the hard shell leather covered bags with side hinged lids , the bags require a mounting kit that moves the rear blinkers back if I remember rightly , my wife's Fatboy is a 93 except it's got the spotlight package , a dealer moustache bar , rear floor boards , windshield , a softail saddle & backrest along with the hard shell bags , all from the HD dealer .

HuntingHarleys Nope I can send you a pic if you like , the hard case leather wrapped hinged bags for the 93 fatboy are different than the same type road king bags , I bought them along with the extension kit for blinkers direct from HD for the fatboy & their about 3/4 the size of the road king bags , let me know if you want detailed pics of how they mount & from all angles & ill get some too hou tomorrow .

I've never seen such on a fatboy, I didn't sell too many in 93 / 94. But 96 - 99, I sold a ton of them. I wonder if they stopped offering it

HuntingHarleys I bought the bags a few months after buying my wife the bike in 93 from Motor City HD & they were expensive as hell , about $1,100 with the blinker kit that moves the rears back 6 inches , I don't think too many were sold because of needing the new wiring harness for the blinkers & the headache of mounting them , I'll snap a few pics of them today & send em to you this evening .

HuntingHarleys I sent you 7 pics of the hard shell bags HD offered for my wife's 93 Fatboy , I posted rough dimensions and mounting where you can see they are much smaller than the road king hard shell bags covered in leather , they came with a kit to move blinkers back and longer rails if I remember correctly.

HuntingHarleys that thing could be signed by Arnold himself from the Terminator 2 movie set. I wouldn't care. I'd clear-coat his signature and ride it till the wheel fell off. But I probably wouldn't get the chance to because it'd probably get stolen before then. Stolen by someone who knew it could be resold for a lot more money. Someone with a big amount of money who would just keep it locked away so it'd "grow" in value. And again the cycle repeats. Hence we see money and collecting is the root of all materialistic evil, and oh lord, I believe I've opened Pandora's box again.... whoops. Anyways, you still got a great channel here. EVO parts don't have much value on the stolen market. These are one of the few Harleys that the bike as a whole with a legal title is worth far more then the sum of it's parts at a swap meet. Some people ride, some people don't. it's far sale, all you have to do is BUY it

Hi, Todd. I never new how you had to really let em warm up a lot? I heard if you let it warm to much in idle, it will warp the heads? is that true? I have a 2005 15 Anniversary, fuel injected! I run it real hard. But I do let it warm up a good 5 to 8 min in idle. Is that too long? I have 16,543 on mine..and I do hear the lifters loud as a sewing machine( I'm running hd 20/50 oil ) , esp when hot!!!! ps- I do have to tighten the exhaust gaskets often...unless I have a gasket leak, that I'm just trying to mask, not being a good mechanic, like yourself!! ps.. did you say head gaskets will blow or exhaust? couldn't really hear ya? sorry for the questions, but I love to learn..new to HD mechanics!

warm up means until the sides of the cylinders feel really warm, not hot, to touch. How long depends on the temperature. I think someone is messing with you about warping the heads for idling too long. If your lifters are loud, something is wrong. What, I cannot say. You should not have to tighten the exhaust "gaskets". that says something else is not right.

oh..ok, thank you very much for the quick response. Maybe I'm hearing a slight exhaust leak and not the lifters? thanks again..peace brother man! Are the lifters self adjustable(closed ) with 2005 fatboys? I tighten down the outside head bolts-with a 1/2' wrench , they tighten with a 1/2 of turn..i just could not reach the ones under the tank!!! have to remove the tank for those, but I was not going to go crazy...is it woth it? or should I have even done that? they felt a little lose(never been touched before)

I am not a twin cam mechanic. I've only owned a couple and never worked on them. I cannot say what it might be only that there should not be some weird noise. they run very silent as far as motor noise

Impressive. But electronics dont scare me. I can work on my TC powered Dyna if need be. But I never need to. Im well aware of things like cam chain tensioner failure . I converted mine to gear drive, That Evo is sweet but it wont run with my Dyna . I do hjowever agree about being able to work on the evo Vs a bike like mine. My ol shovel has a tool bag on it . My Dyna ? I dont carry tools . Why? Cant fix it on the side of the road!!!!
