Huntington Beach declares itself a "non-sanctuary city"

With immigration front-and-center as the Trump Presidency begins, the city of Huntington Beach this week voted to declare itself a "non-sanctuary city for illegal immigration for the prevention of crime." The order is in defiance of state sanctuary status, signed into law in 2017 as a way to limit how the state and local law enforcement can cooperate with federal immigration authorities. My mum came here legally and before she became a citizen, she had to prove she knew the history of the U.S., spoke English and would make a good citizen for the nation. Her citizenship application/paperwork was lost 11 times. Finally, our local congressman had carried her papers for her. They tried to give him the run around, until he told them who he was. Based on what I know, the federal government or state, depending on the jurisdiction, would have to prove that the employer knowingly hired undocumented people and/or did not obtain employment verification. The government would have to prove that the undocumented persons were working at a particular business (carwash, restaurant, etc).
