This talk explores the diagnosis, stages of the disease, and its treatment. The Stanford Huntington's Disease and Ataxia Clinic has been named a Center of Excellence by the Huntington's Disease Society of America. As someone who is starting to see symptoms, I am more than a little bit terrified, but at the same time I don't want to know, a diagnosis would prevent me from getting life insurance. With there being no cure, and only minimal treatments for the symptoms. I see no reason to go to the doctor. One thing that you don't cover in your commentary on the suicide risk is those that would take that path to prevent further pain and suffering to their families. For me the scariest thing would be living long enough to not be able to make that decision. I watched a friend die from ALS, the most heartbreaking thing was the day he realized that his guns were on the second floor and he could no longer make it upstairs. We should really have legalized euthanasia, people should have a choice. Most people do not want to be a strain on their families.

I agree with euthenasia completely. If that is the decision of the person suffering. My brother died of end stage lung cancer and he had no desire to take his life but if I were in the same situation I would not want to suffer. But I would like to live as long as possible until my quality of life was too hard to handle. I am not brave. Unfortunately, as in the case of your friend with ALS, because doctors are not allowed to help these patients die when they wish, the situation is forcing people who do not want to live to the very end stages of having to make the decision to take their life too early. I think the best move would be for people to move to Washington state where euthanasia is legal. Young children have to suffer the tortures of the damned before they die of terminal illness because doctors cannot help them. It's barbaric. But, again, this would only be done after counseling and at the direction of the patient. I think people refer to this as dying with dignity but I believe whatever the choice, all of these people die with dignity. Choosing to fight to the end is very brave.

48:30. For me, the most difficult part of the disease was figuring out what to do as the person has a short lifespan. I Remember doing that for my dad. Someday I will have to think about it for my Ex who is 30 and he has this disease. 🎭🐚🐌

These speakers will never truly understand just how much life sucks living with this disease!! I am 49 and have watched my Father kill himself, my Sister die from AIDS in her 30's and My Brother I can't even talk to because I can ever understand what he's saying with this disease!! I lost my son, and My wife of 12 years see me get worse and worse day week by week! More irritability, shitty attitude and mood. Terrible depression and carrying a sex offender charge over my head from when I was 19 dating a 15 year old. Trust me it couldn't get much God Dam worse!!

This is very out of date. HD 1 is heavily funded and resulted in reduction of Huntington protein. HD2 has been expanded and showing very promising earlier indicators. It's a total game changer for those in early phase reducing progression of the disease.

I'm related to one of the colonial families that was researched to find that it was hereditary. The van stone family is off one of my lines. I'll make sure to have my neurologist check for this. The line of the van stones, the modern family seems to have no cases after a certain time to today.

I did not listen to much of your video, but scanned most of the therapy portions, but can find no reference to the use of marijuana or hemp as a possible improvement to the patient? Has marijuana and hemp been tried, and if not, why not? I do know medical marijuana can improve certain types of seizures, and tremors of Parkinsons and MS.

Hi! No, he will not die. There is a remedy. I have a very bad neurodegenerative disease and I found an amazing cure: seawater. This therapy is implemented very much in the latín countries, especially Nicaragua. Doctor Maria Teresa Ilari is a pioneer. The foundation Aguamaris in Barcelona, too. Also check dr. Hulda Clark therapy for degenerative diseases. There are remedies. I drink 1 lt of water with lemon and seawater in the morning and it gives me amazing clarity. I feel normal again. I reccomend sports, especially swimming. If I don't follow my routine the cramps and mental fog and clumsyness come back again. I can send you the whole routine for your friend. I keep my illness at bay líke this, even if lately I had many friends visit, got out of my routine, got tired and I lost weight and my body became sniff. I have to start all over again. It's a terrible fight. Let me know if your friend needs help.
