Great wrap-up, Josh, and thanks for the kind words. I had a blast. Once it cools down a bit, we should go activate Smith Mtn once and for all.

Man, this looks like it was fun. It's been years since I was at a hamfest, and KZbin wasn't a thing when I first got licensed (early 2000s) but I gotta say, the Millenial generation is killing it when it comes to amateur radio. KEEP DOING what you're doing! Now I have to put the Huntsville Space Museum on my list of places to visit.

As best I remember, that's a PRC radio series generator, hand cranked for the old Korean War era. Had to jump(parachute) one of those into an exercise once. An 8 man A team of super fit guys took turns cranking that thing for 2 min. apiece for 45 min. to get a half charge on 1 battery. Was hoping I'd never see one again. I remember puking on my third turn, they are soooooo hard to crank!

The green seat was part of that unit which is a hand crank generator, it had a handle crank on each side of the unit at the top and you would sit on the seat facing the unit, grab the handles and crank away the way someone that is a paraplegic would on a recombinant bike.

I love Huntsville and this year missed it like an amputee misses his lost leg. I've never been in the HSV terminal since I'm only a 6 hour drive but I love the passenger drop off and pick up area. Basically angle parking between arrivals & departures. I picked up the 2019 YHOTY at the airport. So convenient, efficient design. AE5DW.

I would agree this was not handled correctly. Typically if her pump fails due to RFI its at a specific frequency not at every frequency. There are some exceptions that could have more frequencies effecting is something is acting like a diode. The consultant did not say what was causing the problem just put out a broad statement that any frequency could be the issue. The pump should be scanned to find the offending frequency then sent back to the manufacturer to test and redesign. This is a medical device and it is required to operate with RFI. Your point on the other frequencies is correct and should be considered.

The chair and crank is probably a hand-crank generator system. One downside of such systems is finding a comfortable way to crank.

"What is this chair?" Never seen a military hand-crank radio generator before? Think Coast Watchers, playing a deadly game of 'hide and Seek' w/ the Japanese in the Pacific....

I decided NOT to attend the Huntsville Hamfest this year, mainly due to the well-known increase in the proliferation of COVID Delta variant. Being over 70 and somewhat immuno-compromised, I felt it was the "adult mature" thing to stay home so I could enjoy more ham radio fun in the future. As I watched the video, I was concerned about the number of people not wearing masks. Although I am fully vaccinated, I still mask up when I have to go shopping. And, I certainly would have worn a mask at the hamfest out of compassion for others, as well as myself. So, don't hate on me, but that's just my feeling. Hate rolls right off of me. :-) 73 de NN5O
@HamRadioCrashCourse3 жыл бұрын
Hi Larry. I share many of your feels. I was often on camera with a mask off but attempting to distance myself. I did have a mask on for most of my time on the floor as seen in my live streams. Stay safe and 73.
