When I worked for Lucas Aerospace in the late 1960 s we had a crash with a Huron, it destroyed a big RB 211 engine casing. The operator did not notice he had not turned off the feed motor. They painted yellow triangles on the hand wheels after that.

I also worked at the Woodtop works in Burnley during the 70's on both of the in house Hurons. Best machine I ever worked on and made a lot of "bonus money' at its controls". I think everybody that has ever worked a Huron has made this oversite with the feed that could be engaged and run without the spindle on. Don't think I ever scrapped a job but defo chipped some teeth on cutters.

Well there was a lot lever pulling and nothing happening. Also when he took a cut early in video, why did he have the swarth flying at him. I did my toolmarking apprenticeship over 40 years ago, we had two of these wonderful milling machines, incredibly versatile

Haha, worked some times at this Huron type. Good maschine, often used, pretty, one of the best in that class former times, but I personaly like it not very much. Greetings to Huron

@@fairfieldindustries Awesome. First off I am attempting to find a operation manual. I am curious to know what that light blue button does, on the panel not the rapid but the blue one as when I press it I head a click but have no Idea what it does. Is it a lock for the quill? Also what lubricant do i use for the head as the gearing is a bit loud. Thank you so much, Cheers.

@@punishr36 Hi Bob, Send me a picture of the button you are referring to. Huron did 2 types of head, one is a grease filled head and the other one is a oil fed head. the oil one we use telos 32 hydraulic oil. if it an oil head on some the oil comes via the ram. the best way to check is to take the head of and you will see if it has a channel that runs down from the head. the grease heads have grease nipples on it. Unfortunatly Huron Millers are prone to be noisy as they are prone to wear on the spiral bevel gears.. you can check for were by holding the spindle in you hand and rock it back and forth to check the backlash. if you have a lot of backlash there is very little you can do without changing the gears and bearings. that could set you back £4,000. i will look to see if we have a manual for a MU6 tomorrow
