One thing I love about this series is the impact Hürrem had on later generations. Her ring is passed down as is crown. Kosem is seen wearing both throughout her stint as Sultana. More than that she embolden countless women to take some control, thanks to her the sultanate of women was born

When Gul Aga was banished from harem she gave him many gold, so he could have comfortable life outside palace. She brought back Daye to her service when she was also banished. Hurrem knew that Daye had little chance to live outside the palace - she was too old to find a job or husband. If Nazli and Nilufer hadn't been killed in Valide and Shah schemes Hurrem would have found good husbands for them after service

Apparently Hurrem couldn't get married to the Sultan until Valide Sultan passed away because among the ladies of the family Valide Sultan gets the highest position. Upon marrying the Sultan one would surpass the Valide Sultan in hierarchy hence "official marriage" can only be done once the Valide Sultan has passed away. Also upon marriage Hurrem was given the title of Haseki Sultan (first ever) that indicates her admission to the family and was allowed to bear more than one child. The Sultans most of the times, didn't officially marry the concubines because the position of Sultan is pious and marriage apparently affects the piousness.

Hm I don't really agree, valide sultan was considered as the strongest person after sultan. Even with marriage , hurrem is still below valide. Yes sultan didn't marry her before but not because hurrem would be above valide but because the order of harem would be lost, the rules don't allow marriage between a sultan and a concubine and valide was very traditional and always followed rules, so Suleiman respected her. Hurrem could not become above valide, valide sultan is always above any woman.
