Today hurricane Hilary supposed to hit Southern California we never had a tropical storm in Los Angeles. A state of emergency was called out. Everybody expected a big storm. I went in the morning to different locations to cover this hurricane. I went to Venice Beach Santa Monica, where the LA river ends up going into the ocean. I went to skate roll in downtown Los Angeles visit the sixth Street bridge and then all the way up to Hollywood Boulevard

Can I tell you all a little story. Three years ago my mom passed away. Unexpectedly. 11 months later my son passed away, kind of unexpectedly. It's been rough. But my boyfriend and his sons have helped me through it. August 21st was my mom's birthday and August 23rd was my son's birthday. During these three days We took a little family vacation to LA and drove around and saw the sites. It was so nice to be near the ocean. So on the 22nd my boyfriend and I were walking along Venice Beach by all the shops. And we ran into you Mike. I have been a fan of your channel for a few years now. Running into you and you taking the time to chat with us for a few minutes meant the world to me. I just wanted to share that with everyone.

We’re talking about 1 day of light to moderate rain at times. This tropical storm was waaaay overhyped by the media. And City of LA officials were happy to feed into it, so they can have a nice distraction from the real emergencies at hand- rampant homelessness and drug use. Our water here in So Cal is too cold to sustain a hurricane.

My gullible 76-year-old mother in New England had to email me to ask how I was coping with the 'earthquake' and 'tropical storm.' Well, here in downtown L.A. I did NOT feel an earthquake and there was rain for less than 24 hours. Sigh.... I've tried for years to tell her about the media, but she's too far gone. I think it's because hers was the very first generation raised on television since it was invented.

I noticed when I traveled to Europe last year that European cities like Prague, Budapest, Paris, Edinburgh etc are beautiful no matter what the weather. Even if it's overcast and rainy. There is help available for these people throughout communities in the US but many of these people refuse help. Many (not all) seem to want the lifestyle of no personal responsibility & doing drugs. The US does have quite a drug abuse problem which in large part has created this sub class of people. There are resources available but people have to want to be helped and want to improve their situation.

I hope your brother gets blood tests done and see if he has vitamin deficiencies and endocrine tests. As these can be genetic, affecting children differently. I’ve met quite a few addicts with thyroid disease or their parents have thyroid diseases. You can be born with it, or not having the right nutrition when you leave home, stress, trauma and accidents can cause it. It affects you emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Unfortunately we cannot see, inside people’s minds and bodies, so we really don’t know what could be wrong with them.

Instead of buying bottled water, most people use plastic containers throughout the year so you just save them and then before the storm hits you you fill them all up stick them in a freezer let them freeze, and if the electricity goes out then you got ice, cold water, and those bottles can be used in your ice chest to keep your food cold also. and thank you for the video. Pretty interesting!

Can’t afford the good cable channels any longer, so thought I’d check out KZbin and found you. I thought it was some German guy in Venice, Italy. Love watching you’re stuff. Your humble, objective, and kind. You’re footage of the homeless is hard to watch but incredibly important for people to see. Not all are addicts and/or lazy. I know this first hand. To anyone who thinks they ALL are, what about the seniors who have disabilities and too old to work? Getting disability for many with valid conditions is practically impossible (I know this first hand, too) and Social Security doesn’t pay enough to live on. It’s disgusting that people running everything don’t admit that high rents, crappy jobs and healthscare system, low wages and SSI/SSDI, is largely to blame. As baby boomers age it’s only going to get worse. Yes, many are addicts but try living on the street and you’d probably do anything you could to escape, too. And many aren’t strong willed enough and realize ending your life is an absolutely practical choice, rather than living like that. Suicide statistics are showing this. After watching some of your other stuff, I just really enjoy coming along with you in your travels. Your curious, nonjudgmental nature is a breath of fresh air. I really liked the Storybook episode of your first job on the beach. Loved the old pictures of you and hearing about your life.

Thanks Mike! As usual you have way better coverage than the commercial media. We had a 5.1 earthquake here in Ojai and the media didn’t bother to come. NBC sent a reporter but she didn’t come up to Ojai. Stopped in Ventura at the Pacificview mall and filmed a small segment there in front of the mall door.
