Whether it weakens or strengthens depends on whether it heads to Mexico or the gulf. Over land, it will weaken. Over water it will draw up new resources.

Media hyped this when it was mostly over open water and hitting small islands in the Caribbean. It is a small small-diameter hurricane. It's weakened considerably after hitting the Yucatan.

@@honeydewflvrd It will undergo rapid intensification in the Western Gulf due to the extremely warm waters (Global Warming), currently ranging 85-88+ degrees F. If you live in southern Texas, you may be in a world of hurt come this Monday. It's a "small" storm, but it will bring tons of rain, like 5-7+ inches of it to the entire region. I'm more worried about my gas prices that may go up because of this. Oh well, back to burning trash in the back yard. I hear some people in Texas think Global Warming is a hoax, so I'll keep burning yard waste until Texas tells me otherwise.

Cat 1-3 at landfall over southern Texas with 5-7+ inches of rain is nothing. People don't mind paying a little more for insurance anyway. That's assuming you have home or car insurance, and flood insurance. Remember, home insurance does not cover flood damage.

@joefish4466 It will not undergo re-intensification because a low-pressure region ahead of the hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico will weaken it to tropical-storm-force winds due to wind shear. You're fake news.

I think now what you will have, is a battle of the winds, trade winds, jet stream, and high and low pressures. What will help Texas at this point, is the lower sea surface temperatures, even though they are far above normal for this time, imagine those temps being even a few degrees warmer in August and September. Seeing as how this is abnormally early, Texans might want to take this opportunity to run hurricane drills, even if it's internally.

Global warming and rapid intensification will make this at minimum a Cat 1 on landfall in southern Texas. I would not rule out TS to Cat 3 while in the western Gulf. The models have underestimated the strength of Beryl since it got named. Gas prices are potentially going up due to this, so fill up.
