We had our chance. We did not change. Now the Earth is at war with humanity. The West, doomed to endless drought, is on fire, the East is drowning, it's coasts pounded by hurricanes, even New England coastlines are "vanishing" into the Atlantic ocean. The environment we smugly destroyed is now a petrie dish for disease: West Nile virus, Zika, Lyme disease, and Covid19 are just the begining. Our motto should have been "Change we must or die we will." Too late now. We had our chance, we were warned. There was a time when we could have made less selfish choices in our politicians. But America said "we don't care if other species go extinct, we want our big-ass cars and our comfort is more important than saving some dumb birds species or whales or bees from extinction." Now all we can do is cry, pray, swelter and die. There was a time when we could have done so much more than thinking and praying.

[Al-Baqarah 2:118] إِنْ هَـٰذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ "This is no other than the false tales and religion of the ancients." وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ "And we are not going to be punished." Then, when they perceived (saw) Our Torment (coming), behold, they (tried to) flee from it. Flee not, but return to that wherein you lived a luxurious life, and to your homes, in order that you may be questioned. We wronged them not, but they wronged themselves. So their gods, other than Allah whom they invoked, profited them naught when there came the Command of your Lord, nor did they add aught to them except destruction. Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He Seizes the (population of) the towns while they are doing wrong (polytheism). Verily, His Seizure is painful, (and) severe. And indeed We have put forth every kind of example in this Qur'an for mankind. But man is ever more quarrelsome than anything. And nothing prevents men from believing, (now) when the guidance (the Qur'an) has come to them, and from asking Forgiveness of their Lord, except that the ways of the ancients be repeated with them, or the torment be brought to them face to face. And your Lord is Most Forgiving, Owner of Mercy. Were He to call them to account for what they have earned, then surely, He would have hastened their punishment. But they have their appointed time, beyond which they will find no escape. Born in raised in Louisiana, left New Orleans after Katrina, relocated out west only to discover raging wildfires that engulf half the country every summer, severe drought and water supply issues.
