Good video. I'd like to add: if public safety officials say you should leave...DO IT.

I’d get rid of the $100 bill and carry smaller currencies instead. You could get robbed if flashing around big bills like that . Also many places won’t take it with the risk of being fake.

Just an addition, store your identifying documents in those containers that you can put in your car. Nothing worse than losing your identity to a storm, hard to impossible to get aid or move freely without them in disaster scenarios.

Great video. I personally would put a container so I could boil water, a change of clothing in a dry bag, a whistle to signal for help. a can opener, a tarp for shelter, a ground cloth to sit and lay down on. Sleeping bag, Paracord, a knife, spoon and fork. Hygiene kit. Sunscreen, insect repellent, eye protection, Maps, maybe even a Compass.

LOVE my Grayl! Just remember to try to pre-filter the water before putting it through the Grayl and have a backup filter for the Grayl, just in case. I'm obsessive about water and have 3 purification systmes, all different methods, in case one style fails. Grayl is my on the go filter. Survivor Filter battery operated filter for huge amounts of water, Survivor Filter, manual pump as a back up. Smaller filters are great to keep around always. Frontier Straws, Life Straws, etc...you cannot have too many ways to Purify water!

In addition to a water filter, buy some purification tablets from Aquamira. They also sell filtration water bottles that can be used with swamp water! Regarding flashlights: do NOT buy Niteeye. The brand is VERY unreliable despite the steep prices. They are not worth it. Instead, buy a $20 Mini Maglite and make sure it says LED light on the packaging. This means it's brighter and uses less energy so your batteries will last longer. Remember to use only lithium batteries. It can run on alkaline but lithium won't leak if stored for long periods of time.
@largol33t1
@largol33t1 2 жыл бұрын
Also, remember to have MULTIPLE sources. Never have only one light. Get a cheap LED camping lantern. There is a brand called FengChi, which is sold in a 3-pack and has hooks to hang from a cord. It got a lot of very good reviews and is less than $19. Also, don't forget your towel. Yes, I read the book "The Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy" but it makes sense. You might get wet in a hurricane so have a few towels in a watertight bag in case you get drenched.

Great video!!! My family emergency kit has Grayl water bottles, a Sawyer Minis, Whirl bags, gallon jugs with funnels (for catching rain water), LifeStraws, Jet Boil adapters and fuel, solar water kettles for boiling water/cooking, an emergency radios with 5 ways to charge it (it has 2 light sources, a charger, an alert feature, an SOS alarm, am/fm/weather stations, etc.), solar/hand crank/battery operated flashlights & lanterns, solar panels & solar chargers (with the cords built in), hand crank chargers, power banks, solar battery rechargers, rechargeable batteries, USB batteries, disposable batteries, multitools, gloves, eye goggles, water, food, first aid kits, a pocket tv, waterproof containers, waterproof pouches, plastic utensils, paper plates, plastic cups, a cooking Glacier cup, ponchos, emergency blankets, emergency bivvys, bandanas, shemaghs, few entertainment items (like a deck of cards, dice, dominoes, a few board games, books, coloring books/activity books, a tablet, an mp3 player, mini electronic games, etc.), self-defense items, an external hard drive, flash drives, copies of important documents & photos in a waterproof/fireproof container/document holder, a fire kit, signal mirrors, whistles, Scrubba wash bags, dryng racks, clotheslines, cash, coins, walkie-talkies. Another source of lighting is the standard solar lighting you have in your yard. Just bring them inside, and place them in a window to recharge. Additionally, know how to use your equipment so you can use it in the cold, wind, and/or rain. Note that the gallon of water per day is cooking and hydration - not bathing, hygiene, or clothes washing.

You should ditch the firestarter and just run with regular old bics. Indefinite shelf life, 3000 lights, works in the absolute worst conditions, and pocket sized.

Good video. Just a comment about the sun panel, which might not be the best gear pick during a hurricane or typhoon I believe (not much sun to charge from).

Thanks for the guide, I will build one like this!!I live in an apartment so their isn't much room for preps but There is a small spot that could probably stack like 3 of those bins, So one of those bins would be for hurricane stuff, while i do live a bit more far up on the east coast often hurricanes get alot of rain(sometimes knocking down power lines, etc)I plan on making a winter bin(most damage the east coast gets are from winter, and hurricane season)With the third one either being a food& water bin, or a general tool and utility bin.Thanks for reading this long comment,great work as always
@UrbanSurvivor

Yeah I really like how compact these bins are and yo can definitely stack them a few high. Yeah a lot of this stuff would be good for cold weather but you would need some jackets, blankets and more food and water!

Nichia 219c emitters for flashlights are equal to Cree XP-G3. Always pick warmer (redder) emitters if give a choice. Blue (cooler) emitters blow your night vision. I don't care about brands but aim for the common battery size 14500/AA and more efficient emitters.

Luci lights are awesome for lighting any area; they are solar lights I use for camping. Luci lights charge easily, last a long time and have various brightness modes. Basically, if you have camping gear, (tent camping especially) you should have almost everything you'd need for disasters.

IMHO a flashlight that takes 14500 lithiums, that can also take standard AAs. Both are the same physical size. You can get chargers for the lithium from any USB-A charger, powerbank, wall, car cig lighter, solar using a compatible 14500 charger. Best to pick a flashlight with a very efficient emitter, for example Cree XP-G3. I have 14500 Xtars with Cree XP-G3 emitters and headbands to make them into headlights when convenient. AAA batteries cost about the same as AAs, but deliver much less juice. Some people like zooms, others like the more compact non zooms. Trustfire makes a charger that fits any lithium cell battery, that doubles as a powerbank using larger batteries such as 26650. TrustFire Magnetic USB Charger for 16500/14500/26650/16340 Lithium Li-Ion Battery. Maybe you want a large 26650 flashlight for the car or abode.

Just a little tip. Any device that utilizes a battery should be stored long term with the batteries removed. Batteries tend to leak when they lose their charge. And buy High-quality batteries such as Duracell, these tend not to leak.
