I lived in Englewood for 10 years. I feel for the losses. However I got out after going through 3 hurricanes and seeing what a foolish thing it is to cram so much wealth right up to the sea with 6 feet of elevation above normal sea level. The barrier islands take the brunt of any storm. It’s how they formed in the first place. Probably within a few decades it will be completely untenable to build on them. And it realistically already is. Scrape em off of all the debris , replant the native growth and call em state parks.

Agreed. FL needs to re-establish Mangroves Forest & inland wetlands to mitigate the impact of storm surges & flash floods!
